i've always felt the bible was tinkered with, so the leaders (or anyone) can alter the passages to put in what they want, to control what they don't like. now that i found some passages i've felt this more than ever

I agree with tubafishy about the fact that most christians don't read the bible. This is something that I believe to be 100% true. Now, I'm not saying that all christians don't read the bible, because I know many who do. I'm just saying that a good majority of them are very hypocritcal. They preach the very texts that they don't live by, as well as tell others to read it when they do not.
Now, about the churches that require you to make a donation...I think that's bull. Personally, I've never been to one church (and I've been to a number of churches, of all denominations) that has said "you must make a donation to remain a parishoner of this church." If they did, I doubt they'd have many people at their services. Yes, there are churches that strongly encourage donations, but that is to be expected. (Especially in the catholic religion. My catholic church actually gives you envelopes, and if you do not place an envelope with a donation in the collection plate at least once every three months, they stop sending you news about the church. This is just their way of saying "We missed you at service" I guess.)

But what is more unfortunate than Christians not reading the Bible, is Christians that read the Bible and still don't live like it.
