Senator Arlen Specter has crossed the aisle, leaving the GOP and joining the Democrats, and prompting the following comment from Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell:
So I think the threat to the country presented by this defection really relates to the issue of whether or not in the United States of America our people want the majority to have whatever it wants without restraint, without a check or a balance.[

Oh, yeah. It would be just terrible if there were no checks and balances in the federal government. Why, the President might be able to stomp all over the Constitution, wiretap citizens without warrants, start a war for bogus reasons, and authorize torture of POWs. And no one would stop him.
But, of course, as long as the President's party doesn't dominate Congress, nothing like that could happen. Phew! What a relief!
