Didn't seem like anyone had posted about this here yet, so since we have some new members on the LJ group here I thought I'd give it a shameless plug. :D
The last couple of years I participated in this swap
here on LJ. Looks like this year they are adding the convenience of a Facebook group to go along with the LJ group. The original call for 2014 swappers is
here.
Hardhatcat 's plug is
here. She's one of the two lovely moderators of the group.
It is traditional piecing, unless you can find a paper-pieced version of the exact same block, or the participant has selected "quilter's choice" in which you get to choose any block you like in that person's chosen colors. I opted to do this the last two years because I wanted to make myself get some sewing done, whether or not I had the time, and also to stretch my skills, because I had ZERO traditional piecing skills the first year I joined. A couple of the chosen blocks last year were a struggle for my limited skills, and I ended up begging for paper-pieced versions of the patterns from a certain someone in order to provide a better block for the recipient.
I hadn't planned to participate this year because it is a year-long swap, BUT I have told Cat that if she needs one more person to hit 10 or 12 to count me in. All things considered, I did manage to get all my blocks out both years, with a little (a LOT of) help from my friends. :D
One important thing I learned in this swap was that I prefer paper-piecing, so if I do participate I will definitely be hunting out paper-pieced versions of whatever blocks I need to make and not even mess around with the traditional piecing. Just not my bag. For those who like to applique, you can probably do that on the "quilter's choice" blocks as well, just check with your recipient and/or the moderator.
