Song 55: Requiem

Feb 28, 2010 14:53

[The post opens with very somber playing, on her electric guitar. She simply couldn't get an acoustic guitar to wine the way she wanted it to. The song was very similar in sound to "Amazing Grace", but it had its own words which she was not singing. When she finally stopped playing, she set the instrument down before picking up the com again.]We've ( Read more... )

[That was a new voice.]

Alright ... come on down to Sergei's whenever you want. Or I could bring my guitar down to the temple on the flower deck if you wanted a more sacred place ... I'm not a priest but it might make things more appropriate.

My name's Katherine by the way ... I don't believe we've met.

Sergei's is fine. I'm on my way.

Oh forgive me. I'm Odette.

Well hello then Odette. I'll be the one on the stage, green dress, red hair, guitar ... shouldn't miss me.

[She's keeping her word and arrives in the bar a few minutes later. There's a woman on stage, matching Kate's description so Odette approaches with a small smile.]

You must be Katherine.

Ah, yes, hi!

[She fumbled with her guitar and slung it over her back before slipping off the stage to extend her hand. She bowed her head slightly, habit from being a maid in a castle; she had an eye for when people were deserved such formalities.]

[Odette takes Kate's hand and shakes it once. It's an odd custom, but so are most things on this ship. She wants to tell Kate not to bow to her. Formalities like that didn't mean much to her anymore.]

What...what is that?

[She points to the guitar Kate has.]

[The shake was strange, as holding hands; Kate was trying to go for the wrist, but the shake was good enough.]

It's a guitar ... an Earth instrument. Kind of like the lutes from my world, but less strings ... you don't have them where you're from either?

Oh I see. No we don't. I've never seen anything like it. We have stringed instruments but nothing like this.

[She clasps her hands behind her and smiles.]

Oh ... heh ... probably because this is electric ... it uses lightning ...

[She settles back into her seat and strums a chord, then fiddles with the volume on the amp to show Odette how it worked. Or at least what it could do.]

[Odette watched, awed. There was still so much to learn from this ship. Why was it so hard for her to get out nowadays?]

That's amazing.

It is. It can make so many interesting sounds ...

[Then she remembers what she was here for.]

So did you lose a friend?

[Odette's smile shrinks.]

Two friends. Blitzwing and Derek. I miss them terribly.

What were they like?

[She quieted her playing.]

Derek I have known my entire life. He is courageous, if not impulsive. As irritating as it is, that is something I always liked about him. He had a problem with speaking before thinking.

[She blinks as a realization dawns on her.]

I never had to doubt that he would look for me. I knew he would.

As for Blitzwing, he was fun. He was teaching me to dance.

[She laughs a little. She didn't even get to say goodbye :<]

Derek sounds like a prince and a gentleman. Impulsiveness can be a great quality, at least you knew he was honest and wasn't planning his words.

[She chuckled lightly at the dancing.]

You didn't know how to dance back home? Or were you learning a new style?
