The contrast between down-to-earth and ethereal was deliberate- to not only play to the four element theme but also to show how disconnected and removed Illyria and Wes are and that Joe and Methos, for all their supernatural connections, have chosen to live in and with the world.
Sometimes I think too much.
Glad you enjoyed them!

I have to say that I agree with fan_elune that there's a definite shift between the Wes/Ilyria drabbles and the Joe/Methos. I think that works as a brilliant way to show both the division and convergence of their worlds. Joe is particularly spot on...the mortal caught up in a world of imortals and demons and death. His relative helplessness is really jarring and affecting. And, damn, but do I love Methos.
I've been out of the lj loop lately...have you written more in the Encore Une Fois universe lately?

Thank you for the feedback. It's nice to see that some of my more esoteric writing choices come through well, and make sense to the readers. I see the foursome as a spectrum with Joe at one end and Illyria at the other, with Methos and Wes inbetween, on living in the world, dealing with it (to varying degrees of success) and with each other.

The stark difference in them (Wes, Ilyria v. Methos, Joe) are almost unsettling, keeping in mind that they are in the same 'verse. Joe and Methos are both very practical and sane, while Wes and Illyria... let's go with the not on that one.
The imagery in the first one still sends chills up my spine. Methos' is very in his voice, with the beer :)
Love them all.
