Summary: Sometimes being the hero wasn’t all it was cracked up to be.

I looked across the carnage that I helped to create and sighed a little. Buffy frowned as she walked over to stand next to me. She, too, looked over at the now demolished building and said, “What’s wrong? Bad guy went boom.”

“That’s part of the problem,” I wearily replied. Every joint was screaming in protest that I had kept insisting on standing. “The paperwork for this is going to be a bitch.”

She let out an indelicate snort that only made her cuter for it. Not that I would ever tell her that, I liked my limbs right where they were, thank you.

“You have to do paperwork?” She asked incredulously.

“I was here on official Warden business,” I nearly whined, but grown men never whine. “They get a little tetchy if you destroy buildings and don’t file the necessary paperwork.”

“Damn, sucks to be you,” she said without a trace of sympathy.

“Thanks,” I drawled looking down at her. “We’ll see how helpful I am next time you’re in a jam.”

She batted her eyelashes at me. “You’ll help, because you can’t resist a damsel.”

Hell’s bells, she was right. Evil paperwork be damned, I would come running.

Summary: Hiding the truth could be a pain.

I had to bite down on the inside of my cheek as I watched Buffy do a fair imitation of a goldfish as she stared at Giles.

“Buffy,” he started, “we agreed on this at the last Council meeting. Paperwork has to be filed if we can’t easily hide the supernatural event from the public.”

“It was just one old building,” she nearly stammered.

“That erupted into flames and collapsed for no apparent reason,” he said sternly as he handed over a stack of papers that I knew was bigger than what mine would be. How I just loved karma.
