Buffy was enjoying the view of the Thames when she spied two men approaching her out of the corner of her eye.
"Buffy Summers?" the younger, good-looking one asked.
"And you want to know, why?"
"Just a few questions, that's all," the older one said reassuringly. "I'm DS Brooks and this lad here is DS Devlin. We just had some questions about last night."
"There's nothing to tell," Buffy answered, doing her best to sound normal. "Just saved the girl from a thug, who ran away before I got a good look at him." Actually, the vampire was dust--not that she was going to tell these nice cops that.
"That's odd, seeing as the girl in question never heard her attacker run away," Brooks answered as Devlin stayed quiet. "She mentioned something about the man turning to dust."
"I don't know what to tell you," Buffy shrugged. "She might have been in shock."
"Here's my card," Devlin finally said after a moment of awkward silence, writing something down. "Give me a call if you start to remember anything different about that night." She smiled and watched them walk away. Looking down, she gasped, the word "Slayer" written in neat letters.

Challenge: #47 - inclement weather
Summary: Buffy needs to know what the man knows and how he knows it.
Buffy watched the storm lash the windows of the café, waiting for Devlin to show up. She had waited a day before calling him to set up this meeting. She needed to find out what he knew and how he knew it.
"It took you longer than expected to call me," Devlin said, sliding into the chair across from her.
"What do you mean by this?" Buffy asked, going straight to the point and sliding the card over to him.
"Why don't you tell me?" he replied, blue eyes serious, bitterness in his voice. "Don't you think you're a little old to be the Slayer? I thought they were all supposed to die young."
"Who was she?" Buffy asked quietly, realization dawning on her. "Who did you know?"
"My sister was three when they came for her," Devlin answered, looking away for an instant. "I was five, and remember them saying she had a destiny. As soon as they said 'Slayer,' my parents handed her over. We didn't hear from her again until after she died back in '96. Bridget was fifteen."
"I'm sorry," Buffy whispered, realizing Bridget was the Slayer before her. "But we're not like that anymore."
Title: Talk, Interrupted
Word count: 100
Fandom: Law and Order: UK/Buffy
Challenge: #32 - work/job
Summary: The talk was going so well, until the phone rang.
"I don't remember much, but she loved dolphins," Matt Devlin said, a sad smile on his face. They had spent the entire afternoon talking, him about his sister and her about how the Council had changed over the last few years. It was one of the best conversations she'd had in a long time.
Buffy was about to respond when Matt's phone rang. "Devlin," he answered, an apologetic look on his face. "Really? I'll be right there. I'm so sorry..." he began before Buffy held up her hand.
"I understand," she said. He smiled at her before walking out the door.
