Dawn tried not to snicker as she watched Ginny try to burn holes in the Slayer’s back with the force of her glare. Harry had been paying way too much attention to Buffy for his girlfriend’s peace of mind. It was just a shame Faith wasn’t here to enjoy the show.

She ambled over to the redhead.

“Buffy has a boyfriend, you know.”

Ginny looked up with a guilty start.

“Was I that obvious?”

“Not so much that either of the Chosen Ones has noticed.”

Ginny managed a weak laugh.

“It’s stupid, I know.”

“Nah, I’d be hacked off too if I were you.”

Ginny held out a hand.

“Ginny Weasley.”

Dawn took it with a grin.

“Dawn Summers.”

“Buffy’s sister?”

“Yep. Years of experience in being the tag along, occasional kidnap victim, and generally only thought of in conjunction with my sister.”

“Don’t I know the feeling.”

“I can imagine. Six big brothers, and then you had to go and hook up with the Boy Who Lived. What were you thinking?”

Buffy laughed wildly at something Harry had said.

Ginny snorted.

“She’s got a boyfriend, huh? Would it be too much to hope he’s fit, rich, and really big?”

Warrick knocked on the door. He’d finished early, and Cath had asked him if he’d mind doing a ‘welfare check’ on Lindsey and Dawn. Neither one was answering their cell phone- never a good sign. Those two managed to get into ungodly amounts of mischief even on the days the supernatural wasn’t involved.

Sure enough, he heard one girl’s voice saying, “Oh, crap, it’s Mom!”

“Don’t be stupid, it’s her house, she wouldn’t knock first. Don’t stop!”

“Dawn, open the door,” he called.

He heard the lock being undone, then the door swung open…revealing water cascading down the stairs, dripping from the ceiling, and a drenched Dawn.

“Dawn, we’re out of towels, I don’t know what else to do, there’s no way-“

Lindsey froze guiltily on the upstairs landing, her jaw working soundlessly as she realized they were busted. Warrick wasn’t entirely sure he wanted to know how the two girls had managed this, but he suspected he’d hear the real story.

Catherine was going to blow a gasket.

“We’re-“ Dawn began.

“In so much trouble,” Warrick finished for her. “You can tell me all about it later. Right now I think we’d better work on cleanup and damage control.”

“So, wait, there were how many dead bodies associated with this race?” Buffy asked, puzzled.

“Only three,” Catherine said, trying not to laugh at her sister’s reaction.

“I thought this race was all cops!”

“Yeah, it is.”

“Then why all the corpses? They should all be fit!”

“They were. It wasn’t the running that killed them. One was poisoned by a colleague wanting his spot, two got shot in a hotel room by a jealous wife.”

Dawn shook her head.

“A conventions’ worth of cops come to town and spark a mini-crime wave. Does that seem backwards to anyone else?”

Dawn watched the fun from her perch on the bed.

“How many cops ended up dead in this year’s race?”

“Only three,” Catherine said patiently. “And it wasn’t actually the race that killed any of them. A jealous cop and a jealous spouse did.”

Buffy wrinkled her nose.

“And you think signing up for this race again is a good idea why exactly?”

“It’s a challenge, Buffy!”

“Couldn’t you get your challenge on without running through the desert trying not to die?”

“Definitely our sister,” Dawn observed.

At the identical glares aimed at her by her sisters, she cracked up.

Greg knew he was in the hospital when he came to. He’d expected it- he’d passed out just as the paramedics were arriving. He couldn’t turn his head- felt like they had it braced. He tried not to freak out.

He heard soft sniffling, but with the brace, he couldn’t see who it was. Although it sounded suspiciously like…

“Dawn?”

God, he sounded awful. This was pretty much the last thing he wanted his girlfriend to see- him beaten to a pulp by a bunch of teenagers. She was used to people who could take on demons and win.

“You’re awake!”

Dawn’s face came into his field of view.

“What are you doing here?”

Dawn tapped him on the knee.

“I would smack you, but I think those assholes did enough already. You’re in the hospital all banged up and you ask what I’m doing here?”

Greg smiled, even though it hurt.

“I’m glad to see you.”

He wasn’t about to admit that he’d had a moment of panic earlier thinking he would never see her again.

She grinned.

“It’s good to see you, too, dork. Cath says they’ll be stopping by to visit as soon as the shift’s over.”

Title: Five Things Warrick Never Told Catherine About Her Sisters
Word Count: 5x100
Fandom: BtVS/CSI
Challenge: #042 - Five Things
Disclaimer: Sadly, I don't own these characters.

1. He thought Buffy was hot. Not that he needed to tell Catherine Buffy was hot- she wasn’t blind. But he was pretty sure Catherine would cut him up into tiny little pieces that would never be found if he even thought of touching her sister. Sam Braun would probably help her, albeit for slightly different reasons. But there was another reason not to say anything: it was so obvious that Buffy and Nick were made for each other. No way he was going to screw up what could be the best thing ever to happen to his best friend.

2. Dawn had been kidnapped at least 3 times other than that time in the Rampart. He was pretty sure that fell into the category of Things Catherine Can’t Handle. He had promised Dawn that time that anything she told him was strictly confidential, unless it was life or death. Kidnappings that were long done and over with weren’t life or death. Two of those other kidnappings she told him about right away. She treated them like a joke. The third time he didn’t hear about until after Nick’s abduction, when Sara told him Dawn needed to talk to him.

3. Buffy died twice. Catherine knew about the first time. But the second one- that one had freaked him out. He’d sat up with Dawn the rest of that miserable night waiting for Buffy to snap out of her flashbacks and come home. After what Dawn had confessed about the night she got her scars, he demanded the truth from Buffy. When she’d told him, he kind of wished she hadn’t. But in a way, he was glad. This was clearly something she’d needed to talk out for a while now. He figured she’d tell Catherine when she was ready.

4. Dawn slept with Greg on her 18th birthday. He hadn’t told Buffy either. Hell, if he could have wiped it from his memory, he would have. That was not something he had wanted to walk in on. It was the first time he’d wished he could bleach his brain. The next day, he’d torn strips out of a mortified Greg for being so stupid. Later that evening, he’d thoroughly embarrassed Dawn with a big brotherly lecture about being careful, which included not only appropriate prophylactic measures against pregnancy and STDs, but also picking locations more carefully and locking doors.

5. Buffy had told him last week that the anagogic demon who worked at the Tropicana overheard Catherine humming and said that she was going to lose someone important to her next week. Buffy had been in tears. She was sure it meant her number was up. He’d tried to reassure Buffy nothing was going to happen to her. But he’d promised that if anything did happen, he’d make sure Cath, Dawn, Lindsey, and Nick were ok. Buffy cared about her family more than anything else in the world. He’d have told Cath about that if he’d gotten the chance.
