“Elizabeth! My genius can’t be wasted as a glorified tour guide! Why don’t you get our resident Kirk to make nice with the new people? I have projects that are vital to the survival of Atlantis and no one besides myself who is smart enough to complete them!”
She shook her head. “They’ve stated a preference for non-military, Rodney. And you’re the best we’ve got.” Appealing to his ego was a necessary evil, she told herself.
Rodney preened. “Well, yes. Of course I am. But you realize that you will owe me for this.”
“Aww c’mon, Doc! We’re not that bad. Join us. We have an independent source of chocolate,” the pirate in the doorway wheedled.
“Chocolate?” Rodney questioned desperately.
“And coffee,” the man added.
Rodney stalked past the man, snapping his fingers impatiently. “Let’s go. Coffee first, I need enough to get me through this insipid task.”
Elizabeth arched an eyebrow. “Changed your mind yet?”
“Genius in need of caffeine here! We have a Kirk, we don’t need a Sparrow too!”
Xander Harris shrugged. “I’ve met worse.”
“He’s broken Marines,” Elizabeth warned.
He smirked. “So have I. It’s actually not that difficult.”
Elizabeth felt the faintest stirrings of dread.
