“Ready?” Joyce surveyed Connie's and Buffy's wardrobe choices for their shopping trip.
Connie was dressed sensibly in a turtleneck pullover and jeans. Buffy... not so much. She had chosen a turtleneck too, but had dug out another miniskirt. Her other concession to Colorado winter: She'd added tights to her ensemble. Joyce shook her head. Buffy really hadn't yet made the connection that 'home' now was also right here in the Springs.
Joyce said pointedly, “Are you sure you want to wear that?”
Buffy rolled her eyes. “I'll be fine, Mom.”
“Okay, well, get your coats.”
On their way to the Jeep, Buffy suddenly stopped and said, “I forgot something.” She turned around and went back inside. Joyce and Connie continued briskly walking to the car.
They settled in and Joyce started the engine and heater. “Brr! Connie, you're from Miami. Why do you know to dress warm here and Buffy doesn't?”
Connie's answer was cut off by Buffy's reappearance, sans-skirt, now wearing jeans. She climbed in, and then noticed Joyce's and Connie's bemused expressions.
“What? Out in daylight, I could see the skirt really didn't go with the top.”
Joyce and Connie shared a look, and burst out laughing.
