A/N - the title is a track from Jimmy Eat World

Everything was over now; she had killed her true love. Her world was fading into the darkness of night from which she knew no escape. She couldn’t return to her friends, not now and maybe not ever. They were hurt and killed for knowing her, she couldn’t do that to them again.

Maybe leaving Sunnydale would help straighten things in her mind. Let her mourn and forget without the nightly battles. There was one place she could think of that knew of her secret life and wouldn’t ask too many questions before she was ready to answer them.

*

Veronica was worried. A late night phone call from someone she hadn’t heard from in years asking her for help. She knew her father wouldn’t care but after everything that had happened in the last few months what with finding out who was Lily’s murderer; he would be more worried about the sudden appearance of Buffy.

But still, she needed her and that was something Veronica wasn’t going to forget. So when there was a knock on the door after three in the morning, she wasn’t all that surprised. She opened the door quickly.

“I was hoping it would be you.”

Jack watched as Daniel seemed to become even more excited than normal after receiving a phone call. He was positively buzzing.

“Okay Space Monkey, what was that all about?” he pried.

“Oh, a former colleague of mine is bringing me some new artefacts to look at,” Daniel replied.

“And this is exciting why?” Jack asked.

“Because it’s the lost prophecy of Shan-su,” Daniel explained then saw the look on Jack’s face. “It’s a prophecy that’s over several thousand years old. I don’t know how Rupert is managing to part with it.”

Jack just smiled before leaving Daniel to his work.

Title: Oddness
Author: kayley
Word Count: 200
Fandom: NCIS
Challenge: #041 - Coffee
Disclaimer: Don’t own

Gibbs smiled as the newest intern dropped off another mug of coffee. She was a bit strange but reminded him a lot as to how Abby first seemed to him. Eager to learn, eager to please but knew what she had to do.

The first thing about Kit that made him think she was strange was that she was willing to go head to head with him in an argument. Something that not a lot of people, especially a young girl would do after hearing of his reputation.

The second thing was that she ignored Tony’s behavior without once getting embarrassed. Even Kate had gotten embarrassed by him at least once.

The most important thing that seemed odd to him was the way she handled herself when viewing crime scene photos and autopsies. From the way she acted, he knew she had seen death too much in her past which was a surprise considering she was still extremely young.

But it was her mix of oddness that made her fit in so well. She got on with everyone in his team, and worked damn hard to get all of her work completed.

“Thanks for that Kit,” he said.

“No problems.”
