The Scoobies' first priority, upon arriving in England, was to track down every lost Council asset they could find. Xander took the properties within walking distance in London. In his own words, "My eye had just gotten used to driving on the right side of the street."
After a few duds, he came upon an old building. The door was locked, but it had rusted and he easily got it open. Inside, he found a strange machine: bundles of wires stretching from the floor to a metal ball, suspended from the ceiling.
He hit what looked like a light switch to take a better look at the thing, and suddenly lightning flashed in the room. It subsided after a moment, and he quipped, "That's one way to blow a fuse." Flipping the switch again did nothing, so he decided to move on, closing the door and making a note to tell Giles about the place.
In the relative darkness of the room, he didn't see another man appear in the far corner. The man touched his eyepatch curiously, noticing that the lightning had left a crescent-like symbol on the dusty floor. "Finally," he said. "Time to finish what I started."
