Hectic pre-season schedule announced for UK Quidditch League

In what many are calling an act of desperation, the Owners' Association have announced a pre-season schedule before the official begin of the Quidditch season, the first week of October. With matches scheduled every other day right up until the start of the season, critics both on the teams and off are wondering just what this will do to the players.

Porphyria Buntz, a longtime fan of the Pride of Portree, says 'The owners are clearly trying a wild stunt to bring interest back to quidditch after the lockout of last year. Well, I for one have no desire to watch athletes that I've cared about for years being worn down by game after game, leaving them exhausted by the time the matches start to matter.' And several players seem to share this concern. From Tutshill Tornadoes' chaser Ted Manning, 'The injuries are bound to be quite high, with such an exhausting schedule, leaving less experienced reserve players to fill starting positions as we move into actual league play. I'm sure I don't know what the owners were thinking, and several of my teammates have voiced similar worries.'

The owners have remained uncharacteristically silent on the decision, only releasing a brief statement that they know what they're doing, and this was a unanimous decision, supported by every team. Any attempt to contact them for further comment has been met with failure by this reporter, although an anonymous source close to one of the owners has suggested that the financial situation of several owners is dire, due to loss of revenue last season, and this is a concerted effort to boost dwindling galleon stacks in the owners' collective coffers. At this point, all we can do is watch and wait to see who will ultimately prove to be right, and hope that this move hasn't served to widen the rift between players and owners.
