Hey mister, she's my sister

Sep 10, 2008 02:08

I don’t know why I thought, at 4am last night, that listening to gangsta rap/techno music would make me fall asleep faster. So I happily put on my GANGSTA playlist and yes, the soothing tones of 50 Cent overcame my caffeine-induced insomnia and I fell into a much needed slumber at about 5am. Yes, hip hop beats do have a soporific quality about them.

Anyhow, I was awoken by daddy dearest at 5.15am for the US Open; did a split-second CBA whether compromising sleep to watch Rfed knock Murray around the court was worth it; decided it really wasn’t, and promptly flopped back to bed. Srsly, I have utterly no resolve. I have LOST COUNT of  the number of times I set the alarm to watch the Euro Championships, Beijing Olympics and now the US Open, woke up to slam down the alarm and go.back.to.bed. I have no resolve. Bad bad Tsus. :(

Anyway the moral of the story is, staying up late is not a good idea. Wrong, staying up AND drinking coffee as a before bed snack is NOT a good idea. What’s to do? Me and mumsies dearest were translating the stupid questionnaire into Chinese until the wee hours and decided to fix up a little supper of oats, cheese and table water. AND COFFEE. Yeah, we are awesome that way.

Speaking of which, butchering translating the questionnaire into Chinese was nothing short of a certified nightmare.

Of course, my proficiency at Chinese is well-renowned (Tan Wus, anyone?)  Gah, my C awesome 6 for stupid Higher Chinese really reared its ugly head today when I had to translate while doing street surveys. It was srsly, a Genius Takes Time moment. What the hell is “ethno-heritage charm” in Chinese? Throw in “Eclectic mix of the old and new” and “STB’s rebranding of Chinatown as a tourist destination has led to only the easily marketable features and aspects of Chinatown being conserved, allowing only a pre-selected history of Chinatown to be represented”!!!! and it was like, die tsus die.

And ooh I must totes mention me and mumsies’ feeble attempts at translation the night before. We couldn’t stop laughing because mumsies kept translating:

“Traditional Chinese goods” into 中国土产

and “Chinatown is losing its relevance for Singaporeans” into 牛车水已经没有前途了

GUFFAW. That’s mumsies for you.

Anyway, RENT. I can’t really imagine what it must be like for all the RENTHEADS who have been in love with this rather, dare I say, legendary, rock musical since 1996. Cliché, but this qualifies as one of those “end of the era” moments and yes, I have never watched RENT (Don’t need to remind me, I AM discounting RENT REMIXED) except for watching the DVD, which I watched because of Idina anyway. But ah, to be able to watch La Vie Boheme performed live (YES, I am still discounting Rent Remixed, thank you) and not to mention, Over the Moon (This version is apparently Idina's Broadway first :0) , which I won’t deny, frightened me to my very core when I first saw it. Perhaps, I should have watched it when in NYC over Easter. But well, what you lose on the swings you get back on the roundabouts, so that’s that really. But on a more positive note, I’m betting on a RENT REVIVAL within the next 5 years, who’s with me? Hah.

Most of Wynford Wonders should remember how I used to like, loop Over the Moon when we were back in StavC. I am deeply apologetic. No one should have to hear “…push over the cliff by a suicidal Mickey Mouse…I gotta gotta gotta gotta gotta gotta gotta gotta find a way…to jump over the moon”, when they are studying Facebooking. I don’t care, I’m the Housemate-from-Hell-and-I-bring-along-people-from-hell muahaha. And lol, looping Menzel is the less-est of the evils that were committed in SC, if I might be allowed to say so *coughcoughwwpdcoughcough hrmps. But love you guys more for it!

Hokay, let’s just listen to it for the last time! Because we must.
