Well hm. We can go the having mutual friends route, and have them meet in-game. Since Aiba knows Nino (details pending) and will soon know Sho?

Aiba's all *____* Mermaid. *grabby hands* And wants to do water experiments :|

oooo lala. Ohno likes. Though Aiba should have fair warning - while freshwater won't bring about his tail, add salt to the mix and there it goes. ;)

I can already see Aiba trying to figure out the exact requirements of Ohno changing. And trying to find/examine his gills. Not to mention the tail. Oh my.

heeee. Weeeell his gills are always there. On his lower back/sides. So that will be fun. And the tail just requires salt water. Even table salt ;)
