OOC: Application

Aug 20, 2009 20:29

Character Name: Alice/B-Rabbit (Bloodstained Black Rabbit)
Series: Pandora Hearts
Version: They follow the same story, but I'm using the manga more. Mid-series.
Age: Physically mid-teens, actually over one hundred.
Gender: Female
Preferred Starting Team: Wolves. For the lulz. Rabbits. Because it fits so well. Either. \o/

Appearance:

Alice has two distinct forms that she appears in. The first, and the most common (as her power is sealed and it is an energy conserving form), is her human form. In this form she appears as a girl her in her teens, though with a very striking appearance. She is relatively small in stature - around 150 cm (which is about 4'11") tall - and lithe in shape; she looks almost thin and delicate at first glance, which is probably helped by the fact that she has a fairly pale complexion. Her hair is dark brown in colour, thin and 'wispy', and reaches down past her knees in length. One long strand on each side is plaited into a thin braid, each topped off with a golden 'spike' like tip. Some of the hair near the top is tufted and sticks out - not wholly unlike a pair of rabbit-like ears. Her bangs are generally long, falling to her chin in places, and fall around bright violet eyes (probably one of the most 'striking' parts of her appearance).

Her outfit, as well, is fairly unique. The primary layer is a simple white dress shirt, the collar popped up, and a short black skirt (reaching down a very small portion of her thighs). She also wears a rather large white ribbon over the collar of her shirt, tied into a bow that is plainly visible from the front. But over all of this she wears a long (it goes down past even the ends of her hair), red and white coat. The coat itself is mostly red but bears white trim in several places. Down the sides of each sleeve there is a white diamond pattern (a simple line of diamonds connected by their vertical tips) before the sleeves themselves are ended in large white cuffs (trimmed themselves with red and white triangles). On the very front of the coat there is an entire section bordered off by white trim, with the body of the section being another diamond pattern: this time alternating between red and white diamonds to make a pattern resembling a slanted checker board. A large portion of the base of the coat is also white, with a triangular design on the border of the white to the red. To top off the attire she wears a pair of white gloves and a tall pair of white boots that are done up with simple white lace in the front.

The form she takes while fighting (and perhaps the appearance closer to what she should look like as a "Chain") wears the same outfit (with some alterations), but is distinctly different in physical appearance. Simply put, she turns into a giant anthropomorphic rabbit. Her fur is black, her eyes bright red, her teeth are fangs and her nails turn to claws. The differences in the outfit are that her coat becomes tattered, she loses the gloves and the skirt is replaced with loose black pants. Weapon-wise, this form usually carries a large red and jagged scythe and it has chains it can attack with as well - long and thin, with gold tips, reminiscent of her human form's braids.

Personality:

tsun Alice comes off as very harsh. She's loud mouthed, angry, sarcastic, insulting and degrading, egotistical and all around abrasive to those around her. Additionally to this she is sometimes a bit strange or odd at times, and she has a massive appetite - sometimes her first thought to an unfamiliar concept will be "is it tasty?". She tends to show this side of herself the most to people, addressing them as servants or with other derogatory terminology (Seaweed Head, Pierrot/Clown, Octopus etc), and usually she speaks and does things without any thought to how it will result. No thought for people's reactions or how it will affect her - she only worries about her own thoughts and voicing/acting them. And her ego shows too. She frequently looks down on others, calling them names (as mentioned before) and servants, and considering herself better than them. And if she is insulted her temper flares more than ever, and she will be quick to threaten the life of whoever is insulting her. Part of her brash personality is that she is occasionally a bit impatient. She'll yell at people for making her wait, especially - though this ties in directly with her fears.

dere And yet she definitely has a soft side. She is a lonely person and her deepest fear is being alone and abandoned. She hates being left behind more than anything, and yet she is not unwilling to push people away from her. She is easily hurt when it comes to matters of friends and family, as she has never really known either (Oz could be counted as a friend, but they don't 'officially' become friends until later) and sometimes will even run away when confronted with scenes of others with said groups, feeling excluded and alone despite how close she may actually be to them. And when she's left alone she does her best to hide that she's upset, simply yelling at people and making excuses. She can get overwhelmed at times and can even get teary-eyed or cry - but she is also very quick to dismiss these by reverting to her brash personality.

Alice is a confident person. It is probably the reason why she is so blatantly honest about her thoughts and feelings so often - and, at the same time, so quick to hide her 'weaker' side. She is cocky and in control. She doesn't let people have the upper hand, ever - and, well, if they do she wouldn't admit it, instead mocking them about how thoroughly she is going to beat them (or whatever the case may be). As for the 'soft' side, she may well just not want to admit such a 'weakness' to those around her (or even to herself).

She can also be excitable at times. Usually this is in relation to food, yes, like being given free food or finding good food, but this also extends to her ego. When she wins something of her own accord she is plenty pleased, going as far as jumping up and down with the excitement.

Alice is also sharp at times. She's far from the smartest character in the series, yes, but she has her wits about her and is sharp. Sometimes she doesn't think things through properly - as stated before - but she definitely isn't an idiot all the same. Unfortunately, she does have occasionally have 'slower' type moments (see the comments on 'is it tasty?'), and can be almost naive about humans and the like. She also has something of an animal instinct for danger.

She is also very existential. She wants desperately to regain her memories so that she can understand who - and what - she really is. Where she came from, why she was born - what happened to her in her life before she became a Chain in the Abyss. She's actually afraid of these answers, though. She's afraid that she's not human, afraid that she's different from other Chains - and she's afraid of her own existence.

Really, in all, Alice is just an open and honest person. She expresses her feelings exactly how they are and is honest with her emotions and thoughts. Even if sometimes she should think through what she's saying and doing.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

Alice is a Chain, which is something akin to a demon. They are powerful beings - much stronger than humans - with remarkable powers and abilities. And Alice herself is strong among these creatures. She is a skilled and powerful fighter, though her abilities seem to specialize in brute strength. She is seen fighting mostly with her oversized scythe and with her spiked chains as well (both occasionally in her human form), as well as kicks, etcetera. She may not have special abilities like some of the other Chains, but she is widely feared for a reason.

The corresponding weakness? In her current state? Yeah, she doesn't have any access at all to any of that brute strength and power. She drew on her contract Oz in order to reach her full potential, but the flow of power between the two of them has been sealed off, so she has none of those powers she did in the Abyss. Raven (and perhaps Oz himself, now) is the only one that can unseal her powers and allow her to fight to her full potential. And while she has a tough kick, she's little more than a regular - and small - human girl when she's without her powers.

Emotionally, her confidence is probably her greatest strength and weakness. She is completely confident in herself, and this gives her an edge. She is damned hard to take down from that level of confidence, and this gives her the impeccable drive to fight on against all odds. She isn't so easily defeated physically or emotionally. But on the other hand, this ego causes her to misjudge herself and others. She overestimates herself and underestimates those who oppose her, which can lead to nasty scrapes along the way.

History:

In the world of Pandora Hearts, there exists an alternate dimension. Another world called The Abyss, where time does not flow properly. In this world, there are beings called "Chains", which is a general term for any creature born into the Abyss. These Chains create contracts with humans in order to escape the Abyss, usually impromptu - and thus illegal. Usually the Chain makes a promise to the person that they can 'turn back time', and are required to consume humans to sustain their power. An illegal contractor will also have a clock shaped seal on their chest, the hand of which moves every time the Chain's power is used; and once a full rotation is made, the Contractor and Chain are both dragged deep into the Abyss.

Another important event to note is the 'Tragedy of Sabrie'. A hundred years prior to the main story an unknown event occurred in the current capital city of the country - Sabrie - that effectively wiped the city off the map. Official reports claimed it was an earthquake, but in reality a massacre occurred before the entire city - and all the people, living and dead - was pulled into the Abyss.

-----

Alice woke up in the Abyss a very long time ago, with no memories of who or what she was. She was the only thing there with any sort of human shape, setting her apart from all of the other, weaker chains. She was alone there for a very long time, waiting for a human with the potential to become her contractor to arrive so that she could escape the lonely Abyss and enter the human world (where she also hoped she would be able to find her fragmented memories).

And eventually, the opportunity arose. She heard a familiar - nostalgic, even - sounding tune from the 'human' world, and was drawn to it. And, consequently, to the boy who had the pocket watch that played the tune.

On Oz Vessalius's 15th birthday, he was attacked by a group of people - The Baskervilles - intending to drag him down into the Abyss. Alice then took the moment to appear (however temporary), claiming Oz as her own property (decided right then and there), transforming into her larger, more lethal form. She fought the Baskervilles to protect Oz before she backed off, disappearing and allowing them to drag him into the Abyss for her (leaving Oz with the message that she was waiting for him).

It wasn't a long wait in the least after that that Oz arrived - and was promptly attacked by one of the weaker Chains. Alice came to his aid soon after (because he was "her prize" of course), and inevitably began to explain things to him. At least, she explained to him that she was a chain, her name was Alice (not B-Rabbit, as the Baskervilles had called her, though that was commonly a name used for her), and that she could allow him to escape the Abyss with her. To do that, however, he would have to form a contract with her - as her powers were severely limited as they were. He was about to accept when suddenly he was taken from her. Oz was being led away by Mad Baby - another chain who took the form of a girl Oz knew. Before the Chain had a chance to kill him, though, Alice came to save him for a third time. The other Chain got a hold of her, though, and she told him he should run away - which, naturally, helped prompt him to try and save her. As they were both being swallowed, he shouted to her that he would form a contract with her.

She immediately annihilated the Chain with ease, corrected Oz's manners on how to form a contract and kissed him to seal it.

She took over his body after that and, wielding her scythe, she tore her way out of the Abyss, into the human world, where the two (Alice still in Oz's body) promptly passed out right in front of Raven Nightray, Xerxes Break and Sharon Rainsworth. When Oz awoke later (Alice still residing in him), Break and he talked, and explanations were had before Break laid the bait for Alice - he told Oz that they were going to arrest him. They explained that they were members of Pandora, and that his contract was illegal, so they would arrest him.

Alice took the bait.

Taking over Oz once more, she grabbed a knife and the nearby Sharon (who had been defending Oz), placing the knife to her throat. Break, of course, promptly revealed that it had been a plot to make her show herself (even if figuratively), saying he wanted to talk with her. She, of course, reacted poorly, but Break had created a sort of seal earlier to prepare for the inevitable, and he forced Alice to leave Oz's body in her human form - which she was being forced into. That was when Break explained that she was too powerful for Oz, and he would have died quickly if she left how he was... and so he had Raven put a seal on her flow of power. Break also began to interrogate her, then, and that was the first time she admitted to the humans that she was simply looking for her lost memories.

And then she attacked Break, despite her current weak state - Break defended himself and... Oz defended her.

After that was settled, Break was about to go get tea when the watch suddenly opened a path to the Abyss and a Chain came out, looking for a way into the human world. Because this series makes so much sense when recorded in writing like this. Break decided to test Alice, and ordered Raven to release her power; he promptly took off his glove and grabbed Oz's head, releasing the seal. Alice, naturally, defeated the weaker Chain with ease and her power was resealed. Oz grabbed the watch and... they began to see broken fragments of Alice's memories. Alice was consumed by a rush of confusing emotions, and began to cry over Oz, explaining that she didn't understand, that her chest was burning and she couldn't stop crying. What had attracted her to the pocket watch in the first place had been a fragment of her memories.

And then Alice was quick to return to her brash self, and demanded of Break what he was going to do with them. He explained that he wanted the two of them to work as his subordinates, and that they were chasing after the Baskervilles - the same people who had dropped Oz into the Abyss. He convinced Alice to go along with it using her memories as incentive. And Oz basically promised to help her.

It was only a short time after this that Break sent Oz and Alice on their first mission, with Gilbert. They were sent to apprehend a murderer - who was also an Illegal Contractor. Alice was angry at first, before Oz convinced her that there was always a possibility that it would work in her favour. There was a possibility that "where there's a chain there's a memory". She got sidetracked (by food) in the town, but they eventually reached their destination of the hotel, where Raven said they would stay for the night: they would search in the morning. Alice was upset at this, but eventually fell asleep.

She woke up to find both males missing, and a chain about to attack the hotel room she was in. She dodged out of the way easily, of course, and caught a glimpse of the Contractor's seal - it was almost to a full rotation already. She ran into Oz and Raven as she escaped down the street. But her power wasn't needed - the girl's seal completed its rotation and she was dragged into the Abyss before their very eyes.

On their return trip, Raven explained what happens when the Illegal Contractor's time runs out - and that it will inevitably happen to Oz and Alice as well. Alice wanted to know if there was some way to remove the seal, but Raven essentially told her that the best way would actually be if she just died. Tsundereness Arguments ensued, and the trio made their way to the mansion where it all started, on Oz's birthday, though Alice fell asleep on the way. She was (accidentally) woken up by Oz when they got there, and he reminisced, telling her of his friend and servant, Gilbert - a boy he had hurt at the ceremony. Alice simply got upset at Oz's proclamation that Gil was his closest friend, telling him that "all weak people need to cling to each other", and that she didn't need that. In truth, she was likely just upset because she had never had any friends and wanted to give good reason why not (beside the whole living in another dimension thing).

The conversation was ended, though, when they realised something was wrong - specifically hearing a gunshot - and rushed to the mansion to investigate. On their way to the door Oz hesitated though - over hearing a woman talking as if Raven was Gilbert, and... saying it had been ten years since he was dragged into the Abyss. Alice just kicked the door open. It was quickly confirmed that it had been ten years - and that Raven was Gilbert Nightray (though the last name was a new thing). But now Raven was being controlled, and that meant that Alice could not use her powers either. She was quickly pinned by another 'puppet' so she wouldn't get in the way, while the controlled Raven attacked Oz. And Zwei - the woman controlling them, and part of the Baskervilles - said something about Oz being the key to getting the Will of the Abyss, was a danger to them, and that he should be dropped into the Abyss. Oz was inevitably pinned by his servant, and basically coaxed Raven out of Zwei's control - Raven shot her instead. Zwei then ran away.

Alice, now freed, explained that Zwei really was gone - her presence was no longer detected. Raven then proceeded to throw a fit at Oz and ran off himself, and Oz seemed to be sulking for a moment - Alice reached a hang out to him, wanting to comfort him, but he was quick to get up and run after Raven and she remembered what he said about Gilbert - and, now by extension, Raven - being his closest friend. Alice was left alone.

Eventually she began to hear a voice talking to her - the Will of the Abyss. It said "I told you so", and tried to remind her that everyone will leave her. That she will always be alone. Alice of course told tWotA to shut up and leave her alone - but soon a creepy rabbit appeared in front of her instead. It asked why she called herself Alice, and reminded her that wasn't he real name. That her real name was the bloodstained black rabbit - B-Rabbit. Oz then appeared and snapped her out of it, and she brushed the previous vision off as a dream. He tried to see if she was okay, but she slapped his hand away and told him not to get too friendly. He explained that Raven was waiting for them by the grave - to investigate. Alice was still mad, so Oz asked her if she was upset that he'd left her behind. Naturally, her response was to kick him down the stairs and yell at him for being a bad manservant. They went to meet with Raven, but Alice lagged behind - and they saw a part of her memories. This time it was of her in a dress, carrying a stuffed rabbit to meet a young man waiting for her. The man's figure turned, and spoke to Oz and Raven as the still clock in the mansion struck twelve, and things began to collapse. They found themselves in sort of a weird alternate world, Alice locked into and unconscious. Alice snapped out of her daze in time to hear the bunny - a puppet of tWotA - asking Oz why he stayed with Alice, as she was just a chain - as she was just a brat who didn't what she was or why she was born. That it'd have been better if she were never born. Oz proclaimed that he would stay with Alice anyway, that he believed he should. And then he shot it in the head (with the gun he took from Raven). Alice was released, and Oz reached out to grab her hand. And they all passed out in the middle of the courtyard.

She later woke up in Raven's house, with Break under the bed she was sleeping in. And freaked out at him, breaking half the room in the process. She fussed and listened in on Oz's conversation with Break, then - Break explained why he and Sharon looked the same after even ten years, and that he himself probably did not have another year left to live. Alice, of course, commented that she had "heard something good", then. Break moved on, saying that Oz was the key, just as Zwei had. Oz was the key to controlling the power of the Abyss - and it had something to do with his "sin", the reason why he was thrown into the existence.

Just then Break asked something odd - he asked Oz where he was. After a confused moment, Alice broke the silence herself, laughing the question off and proclaiming that Break was stupid and his eyes going bad: Oz was, after all, right there. Break then took his leave. Through a cabinet. Alice and Raven were promptly distracted by how exactly that worked. Eventually they noticed that Oz had disappeared on them and they went out into the hall to check up on him, where Alice found a bouquet of flowers and a note. Raven read the note, Alice tried to eat the flowers.

The three of them went into town, and Alice ran off to get some meat (by force), Raven following after her. While Raven bought her the expensive food, she asked him about his lack of memories (that she'd heard about from Oz) - and admitted she was curious about what a parent was like. And she asked if - since a parent creates life - a parent also created a reason for living. Raven didn't give her a good answer, so she said she would ask Oz. Raven flipped out and yelled at her not to, as it was a 'delicate subject' for Oz. And that it was something she wouldn't understand. They got into a brief shouting match, before she finally insulted Oz. Raven then basically pinned her to a wall and got yelled at not to insult Oz. She then suggested they talk - she decided to get the story out of Raven. He explained what happened with Oz and his father. How his father proclaimed in front of him that it'd have been better if Oz were never born. Called him filthy and slapped him away.

Just as they were about to go back, though, Alice smelt an overpowering scent of bugs. A scent she had smelt before in the Abyss. She and Raven left to investigate it - the Chain called Grim. She hadn't left her desire to fight behind, after all, and it could have a piece of her memories. The large, disgusting bug-like Chain quickly appeared, wanting to consume "B-Rabbit", saying that tWotA would be pleased if it did. Alice yelled at the Chain, and demanded Raven release the seal on her power - before they both realised that Oz wasn't there. They promptly ran away. Echo appeared and fought it off before Oz appeared close behind. Soon after, the boys got buried under a small amount of rubble, but Raven used the opportunity to release Alice's seal. She transformed, and began to fight Grim.

Oz wanted her to stop fighting, but she ignored him - until he somehow called upon the power in him to force her to stop. She was forced back into human form and collapsed on the ground, barely able to move her body, while Raven was knocked unconscious. Alice was forced to simply sit and watch as the Illegal Contractor shot at Oz and Oz interrogated him about his motives and then had a speech about the man leaving his son alone (it seemed that Oz met the Contractor's son just earlier). Raven awoke then, and nearly shot the man - before Vincent did in his place. The man died right there, and Raven forced the seal closed on Oz again.

Back at the Rainsworth Manor, Alice expressed her surprise to Oz about him getting so angry, before she decided she didn't really get it. But when it came to the concept of being alone... she was able to compare it to being cold, as she curled up behind Oz, back to back. She said that Oz was sad that the little boy now had to experience that. The two of them then started talking about Vincent, before Raven came in to explain it all to them. About how Vincent was his biological brother, and how both had been adopted by the Nightray family and why he joined them. Unfortunately, Alice (and Oz) both fell asleep in the middle of it.

The next morning the trio went out to look for Raven's favourite hat (which Oz had lost), inevitably getting them into an arm wrestling competition with some drunks to get it back. Oz won his round, Raven lost his (because Oz's uncle Oscar came along and took over for the woman) and so it was up to Alice to fight the biggest of them. She talked big, but eventually realised her powers were still sealed, and that that meant she couldn't win. More insults, Alice got pissed before she felt a flare in her powers and broke the guys arm to win. Raven got his hat back, and they ended up splitting up to avoid trouble. Alice got given some free food before she went to find the other three (Oscar joining them despite having beaten Raven so badly): and she walked in on their touching family reunion. She got upset and ran away, without really knowing why. While she was in an alley, Break appeared to her and told her to pay more attention to her surroundings - as they were both being followed. The both of them were captured by Cheshire Cat.

She had a brief dream (related to her memories), and woke from it to find herself and Break in a strange alternate world; neither the "human" world nor the Abyss. Break reminded her of what happened - and told her that they were now in Cheshire's house. Alice also quickly figured out that she'd been used as bait for Break's purposes. That conversation was ended quickly, though, when Break saved her from a falling chandelier and explained that Cheshire intended to kill her. They fought a bit while they talked, and Break grabbed her and ran off - without Raven and Oz she may as well have been just another girl. She struggled at first, before she realised that her memories were in that place, but they felt different somehow.

Break explained to her after putting her down that she was a special Chain because she didn't eat humans; and it wasn't so much that she didn't want to, but she didn't have to. Similarly, Cheshire was a special Chain because he didn't need a contractor - he didn't even need (let alone want) to leave this special world of his. He explained that her and Chesire were alike in that their reason for existing was different from most Chains. And they were quite similar to tWotA. Break, meanwhile, just wanted to talk to Cheshire. For information, mostly.

As they moved on she realised she was afraid of the memories, and she started hearing voices asking her why she wanted to remember. She said she wanted to understand why she was born. The voice then asked her why she forgot in the first place. Break was trying to snap her out of it, but she slapped his hand away and ran away.

As she ran she eventually saw a cat wearing a bell, and she remembered that the cat was a precious friend - and then she chased after it. Eventually she saw the strange blonde man from her early memories, beckoning to her. She went to him, taking his hand. She asked him who he was, what he was to her, as he hugged her. If she could only know that, then maybe she could understand who she was. She was eventually trapped there, and nearly pulled into that world and lost forever.

While she was in that state, at some point Oz basically went berserk* and started essentially using Alice's power in him to begin destroying everything. All for her, of course - he would destroy everything that made her sad and afraid: he heard her say she was most afraid of herself, and so he even wanted to kill her. But once he snapped out of it he was able to save Alice from being killed (after giving a nice speech about her). She wanted to just keep sleeping, but Oz's words inevitably snapped her out of it and she was freed.

"Alice just has to be Alice."

She cried into his chest holding onto him, asking him what had taken him so long.

The world was collapsing at that point, and they realised they had to escape - but Sharon's Chain, Eques (what Oz and Raven used to enter the world in the first place), was not around to take them back. And then Break conveniently dropped out of the 'sky' with Cheshire (who had been thoroughly pummeled by the former). And, surprisingly enough, Cheshire began to go on about how he would destroy everything that made her sad and afraid.

They were still stuck out, so Break beat up Cheshire a little bit more (while he declared Alice his most previous friend), and they got separated - Alice and Oz from the other two. Just then Eques appeared, and took the two of them back to the human world.

Conveniently enough, when they returned to the human world, Alice's seal broke so she was once again in giant rabbit form, and both of them landed on the table of the Pandora headquarters meeting room table. You know, the organization that would arrest any Illegal Contractors - like Oz - and knew well of Alice's terrifying reputation. In the middle of the meeting. Naturally they were forced to run away quickly. Especially after they were accused of being assassins. Inevitably, though, they were cornered. Alice tried to attack the men, but Oz - or it seemed it was Oz - called out to her, forced her powers to be sealed once more. They were attacked anyway, but Oz took quick control of the situation, somehow even more collected than usual. As he gave a great speech, though, it became evident that it was actually Jack Vessalius - the hero from 100 years ago, the man from Alice's fond memories - was using Oz's body to speak. He had such a powerful air about him (plus the revelation that even Oz himself had somehow escaped from the inescapable abyss) that he had Pandora vow to protect Oz - as he was the key, and would lead them on to fight the Baskervilles.

And then Oz passed out.

Starting around that point, the trio stayed with Pandora for about a week, enduring many interviews and interrogations about them - and Jack - in the mean time. It was around then that Alice got the invitation, and found herself - recklessly - going to investigate alone.

*For reference, why he went berserk is that he discovered that Alice used to be human, 100 years prior, before someone murdered her. This is an endnote, since Alice doesn't actually know about that, but I thought it was... important to note. For obvious reasons. It is still unknown who killed her - actually a lot of the stuff from back then is unknown still.
