Books!

Yesterday I finished two of the books I had been reading: The Count of Monte Cristo and The Kite Runner. I've been wanting to read them each for awhile now (years in the case of Monte Cristo), and finally got around to it. I definitely not disappointed in either case, as they were both quite excellent. My only annoyance really was that I didn't notice that the copy of Monte Cristo that I had purchased was the abridged version. At several points there were definitely scenes that seemed to be missing; at the end of the book, after the story they included a list of what had been cut, which included two very, very important plot points >_< Both revolving around Danglars, and how the Count finishes his revenge on him. Out of all the things to cut out, you think you wouldn't cut out things that are essential to the plot. Oh well.

Also, I highly recommend reading The Kite Runner if you get the chance. It's the story of a Afghani man; his childhood in Afghanistan, leaving the country during hte cold war when the Russians invaded, and then eventually, his return to an Afghanistan that he no longer recognizes with the Taliban in power. It was definitely a powerful, emotional book.
