New School Year, New Game!

So, the first day of classes is tomorrow. This will be my first foray into the world of Art Education. I'm not sure what to expect out of my Education classes. I mean, when you take Biology or History you just read and memorize facts, granted that's if you don't have a Bio Lab. Anyway my point is, that it's going to be different, and I don't quite know what is going to be expected of me when I am being taught how to teach. Or maybe it's better to say, I don't know the formula yet, or the standard operating procedure. I just hope I do well.

Anyway, my brother will also be going back to school this year, though he is going for a Master's degree in Accounting. However we will both be on the same campus, which is something new. On MWF we will be carpooling, but I have additional classes on T/TH, so yeah, I go all friggin' week! Blah, oh well. I am most nervous about the parking situation tomorrow. We are leaving extra early tomorrow, but parking is seriously tight on campus the first few weeks of classes. This will also be my first morning class, so I have to figure out the "morning parking schedule" as I see it. Basically I need to find the right time frame to get in there that will allow us to get a space without too much trouble. I remember last year having to tool around the lots for 15~30 minutes to find a space. I am hoping though that morning might be lighter? Anyway, for the rest of the day I am sure I am going to be antsy about the start of classes and parking. It seems sad to obsess over parking, but seriously it is hell!

So, besides the start of the new school year, I've been working on the next Patches update little by little, and also playing Harvest Moon: Rune Factory. Rune Factory is Natsume's first attempt to to try and combine their farming sim/town RP, with fantasy adventure/dungeon crawling. I think many of us who have loved Harvest Moon and also loved RPGs, have always dreamt of a game like this, where you can tend to your farm and then decide to waste away the rest of the day sacking monsters and exploring storylines. I haven't finished this game by far. I'm still in my first year, and have just entered into winter, but so far it's proven to be addicting, but also a little tedious at times. I won't really give it any sort of real review yet as I obviously need to play more, but I can say that this game has both some great successes as well as failures. Overall it is certainly a step in the right direction to combining the two genre, and Natsume is probably the most capable at doing such a thing. It makes one excited to think of the potential of future games, since there are so many new things that can be incorporated or expanded on to make the games even richer. I just hope that Natsume will continue to explore this line of games....and of course their straight farming sims as well, LOL. One thing that did surprise me about Rune Factory was how good the graphics are on the DS. If the graphics are this good on the DS, then I can't wait to see what they come up with for the Harvest Moon game that will be coming out for the Wii in the 4th quarter.
