A/N: Prompted randomly, and the story basically wrote itself. Written for taecyeonforever ~ :3

How many times do you get to meet someone like that, someone who is perfect for you? It doesn't happen often, that's for sure. Taecyeon wishes that he hadn't done this, that he hadn't done that, and his heart aches every time he remembers how badly he screwed up. But she's gone, and he has her now.

--

“Junghwa! Promise me that you'll always stay with me?” Taecyeon called jokingly. Junghwa, originally smiling, suddenly frowned.

“Taec, I don't make promises that I can't guarantee I'll keep,” Junghwa said softly, bringing a slight frown to her boyfriend's face.

“Hwa… What are you saying, that you don't think you'll love me anymore?” Taecyeon said unhappily.

“That's not it, Taec,” Junghwa said wearily. Taecyeon couldn't take it anymore.

“Then what is it? Is it that 'oppa' of yours, Heechul? Is he the one who makes you say this?!” Taecyeon exploded. Junghwa shied away from him.

“I… I can't do this anymore, Taec. I'm sick and tired of living in the fear that you're going to hit me, or do something!” Junghwa shrieked back, running out of the room and slamming the door behind her.

“Junghwa!” Taecyeon's cry was lost, reaching the ears of no one but the wooden door. Taecyeon felt a sense of frightening finality welling up in his chest.

--

“Hey, Junghwa ah, don't cry, please,” Heechul pleaded. Junghwa stifled a sharp sob, leaning against Heechul's shoulder. “What happened?” he said, clearly worried.

“Taecyeon!” Junghwa cried out, breath hitching with sobs. Heechul's arms tighten around her.

“What did he do, Junghwa?” Heechul says, quiet voice barely betraying the shaking anger hidden behind it. Junghwa hid her face in Heechul's shoulder, crying too hard to get a coherent word out.

--

“Junghwa!” Taecyeon calls angrily. There is no response from the silent, still house. “JUNGHWA!” He hollers again, but his shouts don’t bring his girlfriend running. Taecyeon grinds his teeth angrily, irrational hatred flowing through his veins, directed at Junghwa’s best friend and ‘oppa’, Kim Heechul.

“If she’s with him, he will die. I swear.”

--

“Oppa,” Junghwa says later, having calmed down, “Taecyeon… is really starting to scare me.” Heechul looks at her with wide eyes.

“What do you mean, Junghwa?” He says calmly, keeping his hands on her shoulders in a restraining fashion.

Junghwa’s eyes are wide and terrified. “Oppa, Taecyeon gets insanely jealous whenever I talk to you, and I’m so afraid! I’m scared that he’s going to hit me, or hurt me in some way!” Heechul’s eyes narrow and his hands tighten on Junghwa’s shoulders almost painfully.

“Junghwa, I promise you that if he ever hurts you, he will die.”

--

“T-Taecyeon…” Junghwa whispers, a week later, confronted by her boyfriend who she has been avoiding constantly.

“Junghwa,” Taecyeon greets her, his eyes hard and glinting. Junghwa shivers slightly.

“What do you want, Taecyeon?” Junghwa says stiffly, voice remaining steady despite the fear coursing through her. Taecyeon’s eyes narrow dangerously.

“Where have you been, Junghwa?” He says in a deceptively calm voice. Junghwa’s jaw tenses.

“Out,” Junghwa replies quite calmly. Taecyeon glares suddenly at her, and a hand moves faster than she believed possible, striking her soundly across the cheek. Junghwa cries out in pain, one hand moving up to her stinging cheek instinctively.

“Y-You… Taec…” Junghwa stutters. Tears well up slowly in her brown eyes, and she spins on her heels and runs away from him, in the opposite direction. Taecyeon makes no move to follow her, haunted by the look of betrayal in her eyes.

--

“Junghwa! What happened?” Heechul demands as Junghwa runs into his house, hand still held to her cheek and crying softly. Junghwa shakes her head, unable to form coherent sentences, upset as she is. Heechul notices the bright red mark on Junghwa’s cheek, partially covered by her hand. “He didn’t.” Heechul’s teeth come together with a sharp snap.

“He… I didn’t think… What…” Junghwa sobs out, nothing making sense. Heechul’s eyes narrow and he grits his teeth, standing up abruptly.

“That’s enough, Junghwa…” Heechul says, his voice calm in comparison to his stature. Junghwa reaches a shaking hand towards him, shaking her head desperately.

“Don’t go o-oppa… Don’t leave me!” Junghwa shrieks in fear, scared that once Heechul leaves, Taecyeon will come and find her.

Heechul’s eyes widen, and he kneels down next to a sobbing Junghwa, curled up in a ball. He strokes her hair gently, saying, “Hey, Junghwa… I’m not leaving, okay? I promise. I’ll be right here, the whole time…” Junghwa, exhausted from the emotional and physical abuse, drops off into unconsciousness with the soothing motion some fifteen minutes later.

Heechul straightens up, walking out of the room and locking the door behind him. “Ok Taecyeon, you will pay for hurting her.”

--

He never saw it coming, the fist to his jaw. He stumbled back, holding one hand to his now aching jaw, spitting out some blood. “What the hell?” He shouted at the blonde man now advancing towards him.

“You’ll pay for hurting her, Taecyeon.” Heechul said dangerously, slipping his hand into his pocket.

“Was Junghwa with you the entire time, Heechul hyung?” Taecyeon says the word mockingly, putting a hard, sarcastic edge on it. Heechul sees no reason to lie.

“…Yes.” Heechul says simply, slipping a knife out of his pocket. Taecyeon’s face twists into an expression of hatred.

“I’ll kill you,” He whispers softly, softly enough that Heechul cannot hear him. “I’LL KILL YOU!” He screams, eyes deranged as he leaps at Heechul.

Heechul backs away from Taecyeon, knife jumping up to slash a line across Taecyeon’s arm, who howls in pain. I just have to hold out until the police come… Just a little longer, please wait, Junghwa! In a sudden, unexpected move, Heechul finds the knife out of his grip and then he is choking on his own blood.

“You deserve to die, Kim Heechul,” Taecyeon whispers in Heechul’s ear as Heechul gasps for breath and sinks to the ground, one hand traveling to the bloody wound in his chest. Heechul shakes his head to try to clear out the dizziness that is fast approaching, and only succeeds in coughing out a spray of bright red blood.

“Y-You… hurt… J-Jung… hwa… so much…” Heechul wheezes out, as blood starts to drip from the corners of his mouth - which is not a good sign. Taecyeon smiles venomously.

“But it doesn’t matter, does it, Heechul? Because when you’re dead, she’ll have no one but me.” Taecyeon says. Heechul laughs weakly, spattering blood over the floor.

“She will never… go back to… you… because she knows… that you… hate me…” Heechul whispers. He finds it difficult to keep his eyes open, and breathing really is beginning to get difficult. Junghwa, I’m sorry I never told you this… but, I love you… I love you so much.

At that moment, the sound of police sirens break through the haze in Taecyeon’s head, and he spins around, trying to find an exit. There is none, and the police quickly appear in a close circle around the two men.

“Ok Taecyeon, you are under arrest.” A police officer says calmly, gesturing for several officers to handcuff Taecyeon and remove his weapons. Taecyeon doesn’t even struggle, eyes suddenly blank as he stares at Heechul and realizes what he has done - he has killed someone, murdered them in cold blood. Junghwa… I’m so sorry. But it’s too late for apologies, as Heechul is placed on a stretcher and whisked away from the scene.

--

“Oppa… oppa, why? Why would you do that for me…” Junghwa sobs, cradling Heechul’s limp hand against her cheek. “I would have been happy if you had just stayed with me,” She cries, hoping desperately for some slight movement to signal Heechul’s awakening.

It has been two weeks since the incident. Heechul was brought into the hospital, barely alive. He flat lined twice on the operating table, and both times was revived, though barely. The doctors suspect it must have been the fear of leaving Junghwa completely alone that kept him alive, because anyone could see how much he had cared for her… anyone except for Junghwa. Heechul survived the surgery, but fell into a coma, and has not awakened since.

Taecyeon was put in prison to await trial, for attempted murder and assault. He knew that he would get a five year sentence, at the very least, since the original charge had been murder. Junghwa, for some reason, felt sorry for Taecyeon, sorry that he had fallen so far only to hit rock bottom.

“Junghwa…” She thinks that she must have imagined the soft, tender voice. Junghwa stares at Heechul, brown eyes blinking furiously as she tries to hold back the onslaught of tears that threaten to pour out. “Junghwa, listen…”

“I’m listening, oppa,” Junghwa whispers, trying to hide the tremor in her voice.

“Junghwa, I love you…” Heechul whispers, as his eyes start to slip shut again. Junghwa lets out a broken sob, clutching Heechul’s hand tightly.

“I… I love you too, Heechul oppa…” She replies, eyes wet with moisture. Heechul smiles faintly, letting his eyes close.

There… I finally said it…

A/N: I’m evil, aren’t I? You don’t know whether Heechul just died, or if he just fell asleep. :3
