I love research!

So, trying to finish up my prospectus so I can celebrate some friends' birthdays this evening, but I had to take a break to share my glee on my research find today. I was killing time in the library stacks between the two classes I taught today and came across an original 1985 printing of Will Jacob and Gerard Jones' Comic Book Heroes: From Silver Age to the Present, with it's screaming blue letters calling it, "The First History of Modern Comic Books!"

I've seen later, revised 1996 version, but this one is the original (before the 1986 of Man of Steel! Made me smile) with yellowed pages and battered cover and LITERALLY falling a part at the seams. That and the entire outside is decorated with ridiculously bright colors. It makes me happy... until I ran into one of my students and suddenly lost all credibility as a teacher. "What? Why do I have a book about Spider-man? No reason... how's your research paper coming? Ahem."

Anyway, back to work for me, but for your enjoyment here's a Superman spoof comic from Apropos Comics:

rant, superman
