Harry Potter fic recommendation?
Why, why, WHY have I never read this story before?
A Stranger in an Unholy Land, folks, is so fucking amazing that I'm resorting to cussing.
This is for the Harry Potter fans out there. I've seen it everywhere on favourites lists, but never really bothered to read it as the summary seemed rather dark and redundant.
Um, hi. I just finished reading. Heck, the epilogue was only posted today. XD But don't let the summary fool you-- this isn't your average 'Harry gets transported to an alternate universe where his parents are alive' stories. Hell, I've written one of those, so I should know. This is damned cool. Political clashes, conspiracies, government secrets, assassinations, student protests and rallies, propaganda, double crossing, coups, etc.
What amazes me the most is the attention to detail. Intricate maps of British roads, plots going on in Downing Street, IRA verses COBRA, details on nuclear warheads. The writer's certainly been paying attention to real life things that most fanfiction authors skim over. Hell, most Harry Potter fans who don't live in the UK can't tell you the significance of Downing Street. it helps that the author comes from England, LOL.
It's the first part of a trilogy, which boggles my mind. But just... read it. There's no ships, and those which are already there... well, there's no focus on them. I'll admit, character development is sometimes bypassed, but this is story, pure and simple. Jam-packed.
