fanart themes

This is something I've been wondering about for a while and I'd really appreciate your feedback ♥

My work has changed over the years, I draw less angst and porn and much more fluff and schmoop. But fandoms are full of very, very different stuff, right? So what is it that makes you wanna click the link? What makes you take a minute and really look at ( Read more... )

I can't pick just one... I honestly think that any/ALL of these could be my favorite. I like to look at pretty art -- and by "pretty," I mean well-drawn. If I like the artist's style, then I will enjoy just about anything they draw. It's important that the artist draws what they like, too... I think if you force yourself to draw something that doesn't come naturally to you, it shows.

Basically, I love your art, you have a really beautiful style and I'm sure I would still love it even if you chose to draw something in a different genre~ Draw what inspires YOU, bb. Because that's what really shines through in your work, in the end ♥

Thank you so much, honey! So many wonderful compliments! ♥

Well yeah, on one hand I agree - I draw what I like and what inspires me. This is my personal stuff that I choose to post online. Although I don't really like looking at most of it afterwards, I discovered that other people enjoy it and that's why I love sharing. It's the one original thing I can give back to the fandom after all I've taken from it.

On the other hand though, if you want this to be your job, you need to know what people like. It's like with any other form of art, really. And I believe you can do a good job, whether you like the theme/genre/fandom you're working with or not, IF you prepare and know what people expect from it.

Maybe base your vote on my fanart then? If you were to see only one of them, done by me, what would you like to see? ;)

Don't worry, I didn't make this poll to find out what my next picture should be like ^^ I'm just curious, that's all. Besides, I have a few new pictures planned already :D

For me it's all about the artist's passion and talent, both of which you have in spades. I think gypsy_sunday is absolutely right - the only way to go is to draw what you want to draw.

To be more specific, having read your reply to gypsy_sunday - I don't care what the characters are doing, whether they're fucking or kissing or glaring at each other or whatever - it's your interpretation of them I'm interested in. Hope that makes sense!

Yeah, it does. And thank you so much both for you feedback and your compliments ♥

Maybe I shouldn't have turned it into a poll or maybe I'm asking the wrong question. I DO know that if the artist is good enough, their fans will stick with them no matter what. And that's when you realize you're actually worth something. But I also feel like sometimes people are looking for specific things in fandom, the way I look for specific fics? That's what I'm trying to find out, more or less ^^;

Sure, I get that. It's just that I don't look for specific pictures in the same way I look for specific types of fic (although even with fic, I'm pretty open-minded - providing it doesn't squick me, quality is the most important thing).

Thanks so much bb! You have no idea how much it means to me to connect like that. I'm always so happy if I find out someone felt emotional because of my picture, that they think the characters look real or when they see all the little details I try to put there. It's very rewarding to me ♥ Especially if they're awesome artists and amazing writers like yourself *hugs*

That's always the most important thing to me, too :) Or at least that's what I always try to focus on.
And maybe I'm doing something right if I have people like you sticking around and giving me awesome feedback? ♥

Yeah, like I mentioned before, I think I asked the wrong question and now people think I ask them about what I'm supposed to draw for them. It's not like that and I'm glad you got what I meant anyway :) I was just curious about themes people prefer more than others, if it matters, if they stick to any kind of theme at all...

Thanks so much, hun!
