Today's word: mushiatsui

I think mushiatsui is the perfect word for days like this where you feel like you can take a bite out of the air while swimming through it and ALL of the bugs are out. On the bright side I got to see a lot of really cool critters today.  Of course all the nifty stuff comes out after Tokoz's visit.  >_>  Any way the main highlight was a tiny painted turtle crossing the path.  He was so small he could have fit in my palm with room to spare.  I moved him to the side of the path he was aiming for.  The sooner he gets to safety the less chance that some small child will come along and keep it as a pet.  Reptiles are difficult to keep unless you know what you're doing.  And somehow I doubt the competence of the children in the area... People just don't realize you do actually have to research a pet, any pet.  Not to mention that turtles under four inches are potential carriers for salmonella.
After the turtle I saw more cool things that are really more just cool for me.  I get excited about very different things than most people it seems.  I saw a monarch perfectly perched on a fully open Queen Anne's lace flower.  It was such a pretty composition, I wished I had a camera.  Although if I had taken a picture, or even if I draw it now, it'd just seem cheesy. I also saw a lot of different kinds of fungus and beetles and other insects.  And I think today was Spider Hatchery Day. On the home stretch of my walk I saw a kind of dragonfly I've never seen before.  It was rather thin, while still being big, and bright green with black stripes. I was excited anyway.

Right now I'm cooking a ham.  Last time I did that the carbon monoxide detector went off and I had to call 911. Let's hope that doesn't happen again.  But you know if it does, that's the last ham I'm making here.
