I'm not sure who all I told about the zombie shark to begin with, so let's start there. The Greenland shark, what I like to call the zombie shark, is the only shark that lives that far north. It lives in 40 degree water and moves very slowly. It grows up to 23 feet long, feeding mostly on things that fall through the ice and drown. It uses the crock-roll method to saw through the decaying flesh. It can't see well as it has parasites on its eyes. Its flesh is poisonous because of the cyanic acid content. Fabulous right?
Anyway, found out that Icelanders have made a dish of this creature, Hakarl. Let's putrefy the toxic animal, right? That'll be tasty. They carve the meat into 5 kilo chunks, store them in wooden boxes for a few months, and then take it out and let it dry. The smell from this process is so foul that the processing center is located miles outside the city. If you eat the meat too soon in the process, you'll end up puking blood.
I maintain that much of the world's cuisine was invented by people drunk off their asses or people on the verge of starvation.
