They used a bait to catch and tangle the medium squid for long enough to get a couple divers in the water, and attach a specially-designed squid-cam. The medium squid high-tailed it back down to his bigger buds, and they got footage of teh really big squid going, "dude, what happened to you? what's this THING attached to your fin?! *chomp!*" Yeah, the big one totally attacked the camera on the littler one. not the littler one itself, just the camera.
it's a documentary worth seeing if you canfind it. That, and the one where they attach a remote camera to a pergerine and then get it to stoop. well, that one's kinda silly. but the humboldt squid one's awesome.
