I finally got around to watching the MMVAs, a week late, since I had it backlogged on tivo. The Jonas Brothers were co-hosting this year and I really wanted to go watch, but I had to study for an exam the next day, so I opted to stay home and study instead. That was a good idea. The crowd on TV looked huge and not having a wristband would have resulted in my probably getting a position in which I would not be able to see. Anyway, I was relatively pleased with the detail put into the MMVAs, and it was really enjoyable to watch; especially Lady Gaga's performance! She's such an amazing singer, and her outfit was really nice! I also loved her thank you speech: "To God and the gays"!
The Jonas Brothers did a decent job of co-hosting and performed well for the opening act; Burning Up, but their Paranoid performance was disappointing. I guess they were tired at that point from all the co-hosting, since Paranoid just seemed to lack energy. Nick just stood and sang the entire time, Joe went around the stage striking poses and shaking hands, while Kevin kind of disappeared from the camera with his guitar. At least they won a MMVA for Burning Up! (presented by Girlicious!) There was one funny and inappropriate moment with Joe and Kim Kardashian when he said that she told People magazine that she had a crush on Nick Jonas. She didn't comment back on that lol.
Speaking of Girlicious, I didn't know that Tiffany had left the group until they actually mentioned it during the MMVA show. During the red carpet, I just thought that she wasn't able to make it for some reason! I'm disappointed that she left the group because "Nic, Nat, Chrys" just doesn't have the same oomph as "Nic, Nat, Tiff, Chrys". Like me won the award for the "most watched video on muchmusic.com, and Stupid Shit was second place. Their outfits weren't that nice though. Nicole's was okay, but Natalie's was very WTF. Oh girlicious <3
When Taylor Lautner stepped out of the limousine during the red carpet, my first thoughts were: those are some tighttt pants. He really does have the whole Adonis Greek god, chiseled face, but I think he looks better in casual wear than the formal wear he was wearing for the MMVAs. The Twilight fans (essentially all the girls) went crazy for him, especially since he said that him playing Jacob may change their minds about Edward; but I still think I prefer Robert Pattison aka. "Team Edward" over "Team Jacob" XD
I was also glad to see Aubrey Graham or "Drake" attend the MMVAs! I knew him from watching Degrassi: The next generation, and had no idea that he was really going into the music business. I have yet to hear his music so I'll be looking forward to hearing it when it gets released! It sucks that Degrassi made so many changes with its cast, but I guess it was time for the older members to move on. Still, he played Jimmy Brooks on that show for 8 years! And now he's going into a music career, that's ambition for you!
The music performances weren't that great though, save for Lady Gaga's. Kelly Clarkson was also good, as so was Rise Against; but Classified's "Anybody Listening", "Boom Boom Pow" and Billy Talent's weren't that great. I was expecting a little bit more from Boom Boom Pow since it's such a hyped up song, but they all seemed to lack energy to sing. I guess maybe lack of practice?
All in all, the MMVA was interesting to watch, I learned of a few new interesting songs/artists:
- Nickelback: Gotta be Somebody
- Rise Against
- The Midway state
- Danny Fernandez: Fantasy
And I'll be looking out for these artists! To break out of my bubble-gum pop music ~ =P
But the Jonas Brothers are still the best!
