Holy crap! That has to be the most horrible thing I've heard in awhile...I would be freaking out. *hugs* Thank goodness for your brother...hopefully you get everything back to working order. Will send tons of good vibes your way.

And hate to say the obvious but... Backup early and often. Seriously. Flash drives go bad, hard disks go bad.
