Fake It 'til You Make It Part Deux

So, about a month ago now, I had what was possibly The Worst/Best Interview of My Life.

I had applied at this place (which turned out to be a temp agency) for a data entry job. They called me, said actually the job is like an hour away from you, how 'bout we put you in for this work-at-home job instead.

I said sure, and went in for an interview. See the above link.

I got an e-mail with testing for the call center job the following Monday. I did it, figuring I must not have gotten the data entry job I'd wanted, sent my scores in, and waited expectantly to hear what was up.

A week later, I got another e-mail for pre-employment drug testing. I called and left a message to see what had happened with the job and at least talk to someone to find out WTF, but never got a call back. I went ahead and did the drug test, but I never heard back on that, either.

On the first of July, I got an e-mail about an orientation in the same place as their office is but a different building, with the time and dress code and notices of what to bring. An hour later, someone (not the person I'd interviewed with) called to verify that I would be there, and I said of course. Even though I had no idea what was going on or what job I was going to orientation for or WTEF.

But I went.

And for the past week, I've been in training to work at a call center. It's through the temp agency, which ... I don't know that I like them. I'm really leery of how reliable they are when they never respond to me (There were also issues with time cards, and I was not the only one they weren't answering), and they're just ... flakey? The company they hired me to work at seems a lot nicer though, and the trainers have all assured us it's a great place to be.

As for the job itself,

It's pretty much exactly what I had been hoping to be hired on to do when I was a Secret Agent for The Borg, but the atmosphere is a complete 180. Business Casual Dress Code instead of Casual. A few small breakrooms and lunch trucks from alternating places instead of a full on lunch room with a kitchenette. No music with lyrics/internet/snacks and covered drinks only instead of streaming music on your computer and eating at your desk while you play video games. Friendliness and energy of the people I'm working with. The topics I'm dealing with.

The first day felt like I'd been sent to work in a prison.

I'm trying to be fair, and it's grown on me over the week. The majority of the people I've met are nice. I'm doing really well in all the knowledge checks we do every day. I've been writing like mad, as my muses have gone into overdrive. (More than a thousand words, whereas I'd go days at a time without writing at all when I was at The Borg.) There's a different sort of energy to put into everything, which is both good and bad.

I still miss The Borg like fire.

I'm working in the mornings again, which means I have about three and a half hours after I get home to eat dinner and relax before I have to sleep. (Seriously: if you see me on YahooMessenger after 9:00 Central US, tell me to get the hell to bed. I haven't managed it yet. x.x) I have Saturday and Sunday off, which is both pleasant and inconvenient, as I kind of enjoy not working on weekdays. It makes getting things done easier. But I do get Sundays off with Shi-chan, which is good, because otherwise we'd never see each other. I should switch to a mid-morning shift in three more weeks, which will hopefully be easier to work with.

In the meantime, I'm still not sure how this is going to work out, but I'm doing my best to be patient with it. I'll hope for the best, and try to stay positive. I suppose we'll see.
