"I'm having a bad day."
Jayden looked up from where he'd been practicing symbols again - and seriously, why was he always doing that, didn't he have them memorized by now? - and blinked at him. ... "What?"
"I'm having a bad day," Antonio repeated. "Hug me."
For a long moment they stared at each other. Long enough that he started to think Jayden wasn't going to agree, that he thought it was weird or something. Or because of his thing about not showing affection.
There could have been lots of reasons, and he tried to convince himself they were more important than the fact that he'd woke up late and missed breakfast and hadn't caught anything this morning and one of his spools was hopelessly tangled and he'd tripped coming into the house and Mike and Kevin had laughed at him. Or that he'd burned his hand making lunch and Mia had scolded him for being careless and sent him out of the kitchen. So he'd tried playing some music to cheer himself up but Ji started frowning at him until he gave up and turned it down. And Emily had told him there was nothing to be sad about in the nicest way and he knew she was trying to help, but ...
And then Jayden stood and moved toward him, and there were arms around him and suddenly that was all he cared about anymore.
He buried his face against Jayden's shoulder, giving up any semblance of dignity as he clung to him. Jayden's arms were very warm, and he smelled like cinnamon. "I hate everything," he mumbled into Jayden's shoulder, snuggling against it slightly.
A hand came up to the back of his neck, and there was a soft kiss just below his ear. "Okay. Then I hate it, too."
