-Cracks up laughing- OMG, I forgot how much I *love* that line. Oh, the mental images! Eat your heart out, Voldemort/Harry and Tom Riddle/Harry Potter fans! ♥
-Wipes away tears- For fans of Severus Snape and AbusedHarry, I give you The Guiltless, which is both an *excellent* characterization of Snape and a wonderful reveal of the fact that Harry is, indeed, abused. Which, considering the fact that while I respect Snape's character but have never been a fan of him, is saying something. And I have an issue with AbusedHarry fics for several reasons. (Not as in I don't like them, but I'm ... picky about them, suffice to say.)
My issue with AbusedHarry fic is this: HARRY *IS* ABUSED. It's CANNON. His relatives swing at him, hit him, belittle him, have forced him to cook and clean for them from a young age, starve him, and lock him in a cupboard. This *is* abuse. One of my biggest issues with the Harry Potter series, much as I love them, is that his entire situation is just glossed over. Other characters either don't notice, or don't care. It's more about showing how awesome and strong and humble Harry is - to the point of making him a borderline Mary Sue.
The problem with AbusedHarry fics that I find in fandom is that they tend to be of two types: either the abuse is suddenly so extreme it's unbelievable (daily beatings with broken bones, extreme starvation, whipping, rape, ect.), or they have it revealed that Harry is abused as in cannon. I actually like the milder revelation fics, even if they do occasionally have a few that still tend to make the abuse more drastic to make it more 'important' than the verbal abuse Harry is already suffering. Sometimes it's done in such a way that I like, such as with Celebony's lovely story Claustrophobia. But honestly, while I like a good TorturedHarry fic as much as anyone, there are limits, people.
Mostly I just find myself annoyed that so many people feel that Harry isn't truly abused, or isn't being 'properly' abused. -Twitches- It just ... bothers me on so many levels.
