Title: (untitled)
Author: butterflydreaming

Characters: Sakura, Touya, Kero, Yue, Yukito, Clow Cards

CHALLENGE TOPIC #2
Theme: It's About Time
Instructions: A timed writing challenge. Sit down, choose a character, and write a first-person POV fic using the theme "time". You have one hour.

Notes: there is a thing in Tsubasa about Sakura Kinomoto giving up her Star wand as the "price" for a certain thing to happen at the end. Essentially, it ensures a happy (by CLAMP standards) ending for that story arc. While a lot of us pretend Tsubasa never happened (because, yikes!), I thought I'd make fic out of a headcanon I recently expressed on tumblr.

Also, this references "Down to Business" by Laurus_Nobilis.

. . .

“Kaiju!” Touya yelled. “It looks like a zoo in here. What is all this?”

Sakura ran in from the living room to the dining and kitchen area where The Sweet, The Shield, and The Fiery hovered over a boiling pot, The Freeze and The Sword shaved a block of ice in a race with The Snow, and The Move and The Windy piled up the results neatly into bowls.

“Oniichan!” Sakura appeared flustered. “What are you doing here?” She laughed nervously. Her attention still lingered on whatever was causing the noises in the living room.

“Yuki sent me a text message. He said he was here. What’s going on?”

A lanky, winged lion bounded into the hall and skidded around the corner of the doorway. “How are those snow cones comin’?” he boomed. “Oh hey, Oniichan!”

Reflexively, Touya responded, “Don’t call me ‘oniichan.’” To Sakura, he asked again, “What is all this? Why are the Cards out?”

“Well…” Sakura started. “I had to do it.”

Touya put his briefcase down on against the wall. He unbuttoned his suit jacket and plunked himself down at the table. “Sit down, Kaiju. Let’s hear it.”

Keroberos popped into his small form. “Oh wait I think I hear Yue calling me…” he said in a small voice, fluttering back out of the room.

It used to be that Touya would observe, letting things play out, without saying anything or stepping in. However, a few years ago, after he had given his magic away to Yue, the truth about Sakura’s magic came out. Their dad had been upset with them both for not saying anything about it to him. From then on, their family didn’t keep secrets from each other. Sometimes, though, that meant that one or the other of them had to call a family meeting and ask the unspoken questions.

“It was for everyone,” Sakura told him. “I had dreams about the other Sakura-chans from other dimensions. They were in trouble. Ichihara-san said that if it was my wish, I could ensure that they would be all right.”

“Her again,” Touya muttered. His piano skills had improved with all the practice, and the Dimension Witch still hadn’t cashed in on his price. “Sakura!” he said with realization. “What did she ask for from you?”

She jumped a little at the intensity of his question, laughing nervously. “You know, Oniichan -- Yue-san asked me just the same way.” She grew serious. “I had to give up my Star wand,” she answered.

“The thing you use to keep the Cards sealed in card form?” Touya asked.

Sakura nodded. “Ichihara-san let me release all the Cards, and one other thing, before I gave it up.”

Touya blinked. “So they’re all on the loose again?” he asked with dread.

Sakura shook her head. Her face filled with a beaming smile. “Mmh. They said they all wanted to stay my friends. They aren’t going to cause any trouble, and if I need something, I can just ask.”

“That’s… great,” said Touya. He wondered what their dad was going to think when he got home. Even with the spare bedroom left from Touya moving in with Yukito, the house was going to be crowded with fifty four magic entities running around in it. He wondered if all the noise from the other room was The Create was building an addition to the house. He remembered Sakura’s birdhouse project and hoped not. Touya had a full time job these days, and it wasn’t in architecture. “I guess our family just got larger.”

“Indeed.” Yue’s smooth voice preceded him. He glided into the room with Keroberos hidden a step behind him. “Hello, Touya.” Another person followed after Yue and Kero.

A moment later, Touya received the shock of his life. Yue stood on one side of the room, and Yukito, separate in his own body, walked in after.

Yukito went directly to Touya after he entered the room. He put his arms around Touya. “I couldn’t tell you in a text messsage,” he said. “I’m so glad you’re already sitting down for the surprise,” Yukito laughed.

“Since I was giving up my Star wand,” Sakura said, “I wanted to make sure to do one more thing, first.”
