per episode 53:

I get a 'plot device' vibe off this episode, like the whole point of it was nothing more than to establish some rules and give a little structure to this whole 'reformat the cards' thing. Because the obvious question that anyone in the audience would ask is: why not just do them all at once? Or at least 1 card a night? It's not like capturing them, when you had to wait for them to come to you. So Clamp wanted to answer that question. Changing every card is like the magical equivalent of a woman lifting a car off her baby - Sakura has to have the emergency strength to do it.

(as I watch)

Why on earth is Sakura so amazed that Eriol does any cooking for his family? She does it every third night, right?

What's Eriol's scheme as he poisons Touya's bike with power, anyway? How could he have possibly known that tonight would be the night that Sakura would talk with Kero and panic about the cards and try to change them all at once and that Dash would be the one to freak out and jump out the window? That's seriously intuitive, even for a magical reincarnation. Or did he just spike the bike for kicks to see what would happen?

Kero: Dad has work now? He sure works hard. Either that, or he's off to see the mistress again.

Writer #1: No matter how hard I try, I just can't think of a plot that will force Sakura to change Sweet, Sand, Lock, and Wave! Not to mention Libra, which none of us even know what it does!

Writer #2: Not to worry, #1. We'll throw all those guys into the group in episode 53. And we STILL don't have to worry about figuring out what Libra does.

It's actually surprising that Sakura hasn't changed Windy by now, since it's her go-to card for practically every capture.

Even though it's just another sign of how ultra creepy Tomoyo is, I crack up pretty hard at this final scene. That Tomoyo is so distraught - then runs out of BATTERIES OMG - is just kind of hilarious. I have to wonder what Li is thinking, trying to prop up a sleeping Sakura and listening to Tomoyo and Kero holler like this. Not exactly the glamorous, serious life of magical combat he dreamed of as a child (er, younger than he is now, anyway).

And the next morning, Sakura remembers that Touya warned her to not ride his bike, and puts two and two together, and realizes that Touya can see and feel a lot of the magic in their world, and decides it's time she tell him everything that's going on so that he can look out for both himself and Yukito. I kid, of course.

My theory was it was just a general powering, like maybe he expected someone to ride it, things go wonky, and Sakura has to use a card that way. Otherwise that's just way too specific a plot maneuver.

Ha, or in my world, before even leaving, Touya says, "Hey there's some weird juju coming from my bike; did you see anyone touch it?" Because she should already know that he knows.

Geez, imagine how short this season would have been if the characters had talked to each other like normal people.
