Five Original VJs (Video Jockeys): Nina Blackwood, Mark Goodman, Alan Hunter, J.J. Jackson and Martha Quinn (All except J.J. Jackson, who died in 2004, became hosts on Sirius satellite radio.
  • Originally the bulk of MTVs Music Videos where crude promotional or just concert clips.
  • As MTV increased in popularity people executives of record producing companies began to see the potential in the Music Videos and thus began producing more.
  • A Large Number of Rock bands where made household names because of MTV
  • In 1984 the first MTV Video Music Awards were held.
  • In 1985 MTV began to be criticized as overly commercial since it was a promotion on recording companies and artists
  • Before 1987 MTV featured almost exclusively Music Videos
  • In the late 1980s MTV came out with “A Week in Rock” which later lead to MTV News
  • Around that time MTV also introduced a dance show called Club MTV
  • Also, A Game Show called Remote Control
  • By the second half of the 1990s MTV consisted of mostly non-music TV shows.
  • In 1997, MTV was angridly criticized for not playing as many Music Videos as it used to
  • In response, they created 4 shows that focused on Music Videos; MTV Live, Total Request, Say What?, and 12 Angry Viewers.
