Both a good and bad day

It's one of those days of mixed blessings I guess.

Got a call from my daughters last night.

Seems the youngest was going through her phone book and calling everyone to say one last goodbye before turning her cell phone off.   Her departure for Iraq is VERY close.  For the first time since she's joined up I heard a little fear in her voice and I'll admit to some in mine too.   Not a good thing having you kid give you their power of attorney, last will and testament and various other instructions in the event things go very bad.  It helps knowing that she's doing what she's always wanted to do and the thing she was destine to do.  Yes it helps a little.   I guess there's no real communication now until she gets over there and settled in.  No mailing address until they get formally assigned to their new location.   She does have calling cards and will be giving a call when they arrive in their initial deployment area.   Time to start the long calendar marking the days till she returns to the states.

Shortly after that I got a call from the older one and finding out that her engagement is off and life is hell in a hand basket.  Things were better after we talked and she doesn't think life is exactly as bleak as she thought.   I'm sure there will be more calls and conversations over the next few weeks but that's just part of the emotional rollercoaster.

Let me tell you....there are days when being a father isn't the most fun thing in the world.   It's also these same time that really makes one understand what it's really means to be one too.

On the bright side I'm flying out again to see
romamink  for the weekend.   Have tickets for Shamrockfest in DC on Saturday and it should be a great time.   What do you say about someone that make you feel so special and the time together so wonderful and words just don't seem to say enough?

travel, emotions, relationships
