entirely random ted and little jay
The subway is crowded, but a girl with a striped polo shirt and the worst bottle bleach job Ted has ever seen gets up so he can plunk his three-year-old daughter on a seat. The girl with the bleached hair probably thinks Little Jay is his sister, but most people do. He's used to it by now.
He watches Little Jay watch the other people on the subway and glances around, a little worried, when she starts waving at someone.
"Who you waving to, baby girl?" he asks. The last thing he needs is some crazy person stalking his kid.
Little Jay sticks out her arm to point and Ted follows her finger to see a guy in jackboots, camo pants, a Penguin Sith t-shirt with the sleeves ripped out, and a candy-apple-red mohawk hanging on to the rail a little farther down the car. The guy's arms are decorated with black and white tattoos of snakes and skulls and roses. He nods at Ted in acknowledgement, and Ted grins and nods back.
"Looks like one of Kato's friends," he says to Little Jay, who nods as well. "You sure can pick 'em, kiddo."
The punk with the mohawk gets off at the same stop as Ted and Little Jay, and just when Ted's wondering if they do actually know each other, or at least know the same people, the guy says "You have a good day, yeah?" to Little Jay, and then walks off in the other direction. Ted picks his kid up, gives her a kiss, and asks if next time she can pick out a cute gay boy with a 'hawk. She just giggles.
(note: ted and little jay live in eden, which is cicirossi's city, and i can't remember if they have a subway or not. for the purposes of this story i'm going to pretend they do. :D also, little jay continues to smile and wave at punks on the train until she's in college. sometimes they even smile and wave back.)
