i love this time of year - the lights, the blowup snowmen in people's yards, the goodwill towards one's fellow humans, the trees in people's front windows - sometimes people decorate the trees in their tiny front yards and that's one of my favorite things - but man, the holiday parties. we only had one this week, for the support staff, and it was delicious (greek food) and we played party games and there was a gift raffle and i got a set of coasters shaped like vinyl records (they picked my number towards the end when there wasn't much left but the coasters were cute) and RIGHT AFTERWARDS was a goodbye party for one of the women who works in, uh, well, i can't tell you what her group does because i don't know. but she's leaving the u. so we had a goodbye party for her and there was CAKE because i guess we hadn't had enough chances to stuff our faces. >.< (and yes i did have a slice. it was chocolate. :D ) that was yesterday and on tuesday one of the admins m brought in pizza and the other admin c brought cupcakes and at the end of the day one of my pi's showed up to gift me with a bag of lindor truffles because clearly i don't have enough chocolate in my house.
(let's be honest here tho - you can never have enough chocolate in your house.)
so it's been a food week. fortunately i'm working from home for the duration, by which i mean until we're off for winter break. (between christmas and new year's.) it's nice.
the other thing i like about this time of year is that i can take advantage of the festive spirit and the festive food and not have to stress myself out about travel planning and obligatory family gatherings and present buying and all the other things folks have to worry about if they celebrate christmas. and i haven't even heard an excessive amount of christmas music. probably because i haven't been in a lot of stores....
oh, speaking of work, the admin who was there for all of a week before she left was actually only there two days and did not leave of her own free will. like, the head of hr made a command decision and she was gone. O.O and none of the admins know why. admin p suspects something was hinky in her cv or her references, but who knows. hmmmm.
last sunday my curling team tied! which is fine. i'll take it. i even made some good shots, including one where i fell on my ass and made the shot anyway. go me.
the series finale of what we do in the shadows was monday and it was an appropriately weird ending to a weird show. a good ending tho. i think i'm going to miss it but in six seasons no one learned how to treat guillermo right and after a while that just wasn't something i really wanted to watch.
for my writing group's holiday project this year we all contributed prompts and put them in an online randomizer to get three random prompts. so i have my prompts and they're fine and i can work with them except i already kind of started writing something and now i'm trying to make the prompts fit what i already have. which seems backwards. and one of the main characters needs a name. >.< one of the prompts was "thirsty for monsters" because we're those kinds of people. i didn't get it. i'm ok with that.
have some good holiday ads. my favorite is probably the kid and the octopus. i mean, it's a tiny octopus, what's not to love?
