last week i bought some dvd's on amazon (raiders of the lost ark because i can't count on it being on tv when i'm in the mood, the crow - there's a remake! starring bill skarsgard! coming out in june! WHY - and an old mel gibson movie called payback that i inexplicably love. it's violent and blue tinged and has lucy liu in it) and a pack of rubber earring backs and SOMEONE STOLE THE BOX OFF MY PORCH ON FRIDAY. wtf. so i told amazon it was never delivered and amazon said no problem, we'll ship your stuff out again, this is what you do if the original package appears, and i had the second shipment rerouted to work and two dvd's and the earring backs came today, yay. this is the first time in all the years i've lived in greater boston that someone stole something off my front porch. MEDIOCRE.
we have a new admin at work and just in time because one admin is retiring on thursday (altho she went to central hr for the paperwork and they said oh, no one told us you were going to retire.... she told the department hr back in january. someone has fallen down on the job and it isn't her) and we got an email towards the end of today that another admin is no longer working in the department.
today's poem has a bit of nostalgia at the end which goes nicely with my old movies.
Something there is that doesn’t love the mall
where we used to chainsmoke on the mezzanine
and watch the escalator’s endless crawl
up from Häagen-Dazs to Chuck E. Cheese-
something so embarrassed by it all, it shatters glass
and scatters yellow lading slips among the weeds,
and strips whole runs of copper from the walls
of what was once a Limited, a County Seat-
their slender mannequins spray-painted now
with cartoon boobs and cocks, unseen
until the new kids come to flash their phones
inside the ancient ruins of the Regal 6-
where webless, clueless, on our own,
we used to hold hands in the dark and kiss.
