pretend it's still wednesday and i didn't just dump a month and a half update on you.
What I just finished reading:
eva moves the furniture which i ended up mostly liking altho i kept reading it thinking you've got ghosts! because it's obvious that's who the companions are. the main character meets a nice jewish boy who isn't just "the jewish character" and i really liked that - it's explicitly part of who he is but isn't the sum total of who he is.
also heavy vinyl: y2k-0!, written by carly usdin and drawn by nina vakueva, which suffers from some of the same kind of plot silliness as the first one - and i had to stop at least once and go "i don't think this was a thing in 1999" - but is also just as adorable. the main character is finally dating the girl of her dreams and her teenage nerves are so cute. seriously, SOCUTE.
also the lizard prince and other south american stories, a comics anthology from the same fabulous folks who published the woman in the woods (north american stories). i think i liked all of them, altho i didn't necessarily love all the art. but that's the risk you run with anthologies.
also hockey girl loves drama boy, written and drawn by faith erin hicks, also about high schoolers, also adorable. ("your mom's sculptures are kinda famous." "canadian famous.") (ok, so that's not an example of the adorable but i giggled.) but contemporary, not late-90s. and the plot isn't ridiculous.
also goth western, written and drawn by livali wyle, which was originally a
web comic and is now published on paper. (they crowdfunded.) it's weird and creepy and queer and fantastic.
What I am reading now:
going postal, by terry pratchett, which i just started. i plan to enjoy it.
What I'm going to read next:
i never have any idea and tonight is no exception. a novel novel, tho, not a graphic novel. or maybe some nice non-fiction.
an important thing i forgot to mention in my month and a half update - my roommate has been out of town since last monday (so like a week and a half ago) and will be gone until next friday and i'm loving it. it's no longer weird being in the house by myself. it's quieter but more importantly there's less clutter and i don't have to share the bathroom. i cannot tell you how much i love not having to share the bathroom.
and rip rosalynn carter (one of the good ones) and andre braugher (also one of the good ones), and good riddance to henry kissinger (somewhere anthony bourdain rolled up his sleeves and finally got to put hands on the guy).
