i am flesh and i am bone
a phd student in one of the groups i support at work is going to a conference in spain next month (she's presenting a paper). i book her flight, get her a hotel, she's all set, and today i get an email from the travel agent telling me that there was a slight change in her flight. a slight change as in she was originally flying home at 3:30p and is now flying home at... 6:00a. this is not a slight change, travel agent.
the other thing that happened today was a staff lunch with yummy thai food and a presentation about some group at the u that i have no idea what they do. the woman doing the presentation never said "so i'm from x services and this is what we do". food was good at least. i might have eaten slightly too many scallion pancakes but you can't prove anything.
my curling team had a bye on sunday so i went to see an open house with a weird kitchen and VERY SMALL bedrooms (one was 8'x11' with a stupidly narrow wardrobe which they had to add so they could call it a bedroom because there wasn't a closet) and closet rods that were way up near the ceiling which is TOO HIGH TO HANG YOUR CLOTHES. wtf. it seemed cheap for the area and i was curious why, and now i know. it only had street parking too. and then i went to target to get some giant bags of halloween candy in preparation for the hordes, and then i sat outside for a little bit because it was kind of sunny and warm, and then i went home.
and on saturday cousin j (of j&r) had a birthday celebration starting at the museum at boston college which had an exhibit of himalayan art (i know nothing about himalayan art so i wanted to go) and then moving to a brewery with a very large family friendly taproom. the place had some food - i got a soft pretzel with a side of delicious beer cheese - but a lot of folks brought their own. cousin j's older kid and her friend went out and got bar food type appetizers (nachos, potato skins, chicken tenders) and we had cake. i don't know any of cousin j's friends and none of our mutual cousins came (and my sister wasn't feeling well so she didn't go either) but i did find someone to talk to. and did i mention the soft pretzel with beer cheese?
friday i got my covid booster and aside from the itching it was fine. but SO ITCHY.
nano planning proceeds excruciatingly slow but at least my main character has a name now. this is progress! i still have a lot of details to figure out but if i knew what i was doing when i started out i wouldn't be me.
