i have returned from the wars! and by "wars" i mean "the cape". i wrote about 2700 words, which i used to be able to do in a couple hours rather than a couple days, and after a while i wondered if it was boring because i thought it was because i know how bad my worldbuilding is and i've been kind of poking at this story for a year and i don't know what i'm doing, or is it boring because it is. y'know? but still, 2700 words, not nothing. and it was nice to just hang out with most of my writing group and sit on the deck for breakfast (they laughed at me when i went for the peanutbutter-on-a-hot-dog-bun option) and go out for ice cream (vanilla and chocolate soft serve with rainbow sprinkles because i'm really ten and chunks of dark chocolate and coconut bar because it sounded yummy) and chill out and just not be home for a few days. i stopped at the grcoery store on the way down - i had to get cilantro - and the parking lot smelled like fried shrimp. which. what. there are no seafood restaurants in that strip mall. i don't think there's fried shrimp in the hot foods section of the store. i do not know why the parking lot smelled like fried shrimp, but it did. delicious but weird.
today i was supposed to be the admin on site for an outside event in a different department in a different building on campus - the project manager for one of my groups is part time in my department and part time in this other department, and she was organizing the event but couldn't be there today, so i kind of volunteered and was kind of voluntold - the event started on saturday and runs until wednesday. i had to be there at eight this morning so i was there at eight this morning, only to find out that the guy who was the admin on site over the weekend did such a good job they wanted him there today too. i was looking for him so he could give me the access card and the key to the loading dock, and when i found him he said oh, didn't anyone tell you, they wanted me to be here today too. when would they have told me that? i was on vacation on friday. since i was on campus anyway i went back to my own department in my own building and sat at my own desk in the air conditioning and did my own thing. (expenses.) no one told the project manager that they didn't need me either, and she was annoyed. she'd gotten me an hour of overtime and said i should take it anyway. i didn't. i'd already told the person who approved it that i didn't need it after all. and did i mention i got to sit in air conditioning? because that's always nice. not thrilled that i basically got up early for no reason, but whatever.
