i'd piss on a sparkplug if i thought it'd do any good

yesterday i:

went to artbeat
bought a pretty glass thing to hang in front of a window
also a ring made of silver and polymer clay
also two very cute cards
also a red leather luggage tag with a hedgehog on it
also earrings made out of very small washers (the jeweler had another pair of earrings and a bracelet made out of tiny hex nuts woven like beads)
also more earrings, these ones glass and metal
saw many cute dogs and cute small children
sweated like a pig because holy shit it was hot and humid. sun was out tho!
had samosas and ice cream for lunch
saw mission: impossible - dead reckoning - part one with my sister
hooooly shit it was a ride
no spoilers but unless you really dislike tom cruise i recommend it
it's convoluted and ridiculous but that's the genre and it doesn't feel almost three hours long
(trailers: dune 2, gran turismo, the creator, bob marley: one love starring kingsley ben-adir who's in secret invasion and peaky blinders, and a teenage mutant ninja turtles)
came home and had a cheese sandwich at 9:30 because i was hungry
went back out for a midnight showing of wargames
wondered if i think it's a good movie because it is or because i have all the nostalgia feels about it (or both)
(trailers for cheesy late 70s/early 80s movies plus equally cheesy ads for videogame systems - atari and i don't remember the other one)
went to bed a bit late

when i got to the theater there was one other person sitting in the audience. fortunately more people showed up. a couple sat right behind me (why do people do that? when it's a big theater that's mostly empty) and realized that neither of them had been born yet when the movie first came out. and that made me feel old because i had been born and i did see it.

anyway. i still think it's a good movie but wow is the tech dated. altho of course the tech is dated - it's forty years old. it doesn't take that long.

today i went to the grocery store in the pouring rain and friday i went into work for the pi lunch and people actually showed up! three of them including a new pi who i met last september when she was on campus for orientation and i walked her to the building where she was meeting someone, and who i remember because a. she looked like a grad student and not faculty, and b. she reminded me VERY STRONGLY of robin from stranger things. she has since cut her hair shorter so the resemblance isn't as strong but she still looks like a grad student and not faculty. there were leftovers altho not a lot. (thai food, yum. they sent NINE small containers of rice - which is a lot of rice! - but that's my fault.)

and in old news but actual news sag-aftra went on strike (striking with the writers guild for the first time since 1960) and while i'd love the next seasons of andor and stranger things sooner rather than later i'm happy to wait if it means actors will get legitimately fair treatment from the studios, and not have to worry about being scanned for ai without future compensation. reading about what productions are now shutting down was how i learned there's going to be a gladiator 2. which. why.

artbeat, movies, ah nostalgia, strike!, weekend wrapup, nerd support, wargames
