guess what season it is!
pumpkin spice season!
ok, that too. but no.
CURLING SEASON.
*the crowd goes wild*
first game was tonight and we won! :O holy carp. it was a close game if not a super exciting one and i was neither physically nor mentally prepared for it but i didn't embarrass myself too badly and i like my team and it was fun. and did i mention we won? because we did. :D
in the past slightly more than a week i:
got a temporary crown on my tooth
(i get the permanent one on friday)
made a honey cake as is the tradition of my people. it's my mom's (previously my grandma's) honey cake and it is yummy
went to cousin j's (of j&r) for dinner for erev rosh hashanah (that's the night before, for the non-jews and non-hebrew speakers in the audience)
sat outside for services. weather behaved, rabbi's sermon was about hope, it was all good
had ridiculously overpriced post-rosh hashanah dinner with my sister (RIDICULOUS altho at least they didn't charge us for bread)
walked out of restaurant to find it SHEETING DOWN RAIN. may or may not have said "what is this bullshit?" before making a run for my car
showed a future visiting student around the building at work
attended an admin's sixty shades of gray hair birthday party, at which there was pizza (yum) and bingo (fun) and chocolate-covered oreos (omg)
signed up for nano
had an idea, had another idea, realized both ideas together were more likely to be 50k of idea than each one separately
went into work on friday when i didn't have to - pi thought he needed a second room for his class this coming week, so students could spread out to give their presentations, so i found a room and came in to look at it, and friday morning he emailed me to say he and the other instructor changed their minds and didn't need a second room after all. went to see it anyway
went up to the peabody essex museum with my sister for an exhibit on fashion designer patrick kelly and an exhibit on early photography in china. the first was fun, the second fascinating. the pem is my favorite local museum and as a bonus is in salem which seemed appropriate for an october outing
and i already mentioned the curling win. woot :D
do you want a fascinator that looks like food?
of course you do. it's not all food, tho - there's also a tomato pincushion fascinator with attached little strawberry.
very creepy and very cool stranger things halloween yard decor. how the hell did they do that??
these are both old news, but!
cuba legalized same-sex marriage and will also allow gay couples to adopt. go cuba.
and nasa slammed a spacecraft into an asteroid (from which they hope to learn how to do this in the future so as to prevent asteroids from slamming into us) and of course
the hubble and the jwst have pictures, because they both happened to be looking that way at the same time.
there's still some money to be made in floppy disks. surprise?
meet the last floppy disk guy still standing. he's been in the floppy business since the 90s. holy carp.
