been a while since i had enough to say about a movie that it required a spoiler cut

yesterday was my sister's birthday. everyone wish her a belated happy. :D sunday i took her out for brunch, after which we walked around for like ten minutes (plus a pit stop at my comic shop because it's been WEEKS) and saw doctor strange and the mountains of madness in the multiverse of madness which i think i liked more than she did, possibly because i have more experience with multiverses than she does. i mean, not literally. they pulled from wandavision and what if... and probably the comics altho the only marvel comics i read are a random assortment of hawkeyes so i can't say for sure. there was a lot going on and parts of it felt almost like a wanda movie more than a dr strange movie, but i didn't actually mind that too much. you had to have seen wandavision to really understand where she was coming from and why the hyperfocus on mom life with two sons. i liked wong a lot and was surprised to see the illuminati, by which i mean captain carter! and maria rambeau, i mean captain marvel! and reed richards? ("didn't you chart in the 60s?" heh.) and professor x, surprise. and bruce campbell! (me to my sister: "it's bruce campbell!" her: "who?") that was a fun cameo. i liked america and i loved the fact that her two moms passed utterly without comment - like, she tells dr strange about them, how she flung them into a different universe without knowing what she was doing - the movie is fairly clear that she's the child of queer women - and all he cares about is that she lost her parents. doesn't matter that those parents were both moms. she was also very cute, just in general, and i appreciated that she got to face wanda down at the end.

and i gotta say, i really liked that it was darker and more explicitly horror-y than the rest of the mcu. the movies are all kind of tonally the same (with slight variations, ok) but they don't reference horror movies like this. you don't get zombies and the souls of the dead and possession (which, i'm sorry, that's what dreamwalking is) and stuff like the darkhold and sinister strange's third eye. (CREEPY.) it's refreshing.

at what point did the various universes split from each other? like, in the universe wanda wanted to move into, where another her has a nice house and two kids and lives a suburban mom life, was she also wanda maximoff, sokovian refugee, high-powered mutant witch, former avenger, beloved of vision-now-deceased? there was the universe where dr strange and not tony stark saved the world from thanos (sort of), where i guess peggy carter got the supersoldier serum instead of steve rogers and maria not carol was captain marvel, but how else was it similar and different from original strange's world? were dr strange and christine an item all across the multiverse? in how many universes was wong the sorceror supreme, and was the ancient one still alive in any of them? and what happened if america's parents got zapped into a universe where they already existed? y'know?

it's very weird to see a marvel movie without a stan lee cameo. altho he wouldn't have been in the last spider-man either.

for previews we got the next top gun (maybe?), mrs harris goes to paris (looks so cute), thor 4: more thor, i mean, love and thunder (very excited), lightyear (also looks so cute and i'm not just saying that because chris evans is buzz lightyear), and possibly another one i don't remember.

after the movie i went home and sat on the back porch because there was a breeze because did i mention it was disgustingly hot all day? it was.

friday i met my sister and some of her friends for her birthday dinner (greek food, yum) and saturday i went to target and shoe shopping with tamalinn and bought black sandals that i kind of needed and kind of didn't. and saturday night i went to a beatles cover band fundraiser for a local organization called plugged in, and i went because my cousin adjacent's hubs was the emcee and lead singer for the opening band. it was outside on the town common (not my town) and the weather was actually pretty nice. the band played on the steps of the town hall, and eventually people got up to dance on the driveway in front of the building. music was good, fun was had.

yesterdy i worked from home, today i worked from work, expenses are apparently where i live now.

a finnish brewery has made a nato themed beer. seriously. it's even got a finnish/french pun in the name.

do you want to read a heartwarming story about a boy who lost a bunch of autographed baseball cards? of course you do. it will restore your faith in humanity (and sports fans) and i am not kidding about that.

human kindness, movie review, fun with friends, beer, weekend wrapup, fun with the fam, fun with my sister
