welcome to 2022. :D today i didn't get dressed until at least one, and i only did that because i had to go to the grocery store and they frown on people grocery shopping in their pajamas.
for nye my sister and i went to cousin j's to watch the fellowship of the ring with him and his wife m and their son. their daughter was vocally and persistently NOT. INTERESTED. and i made
lembas bread!
two kinds, recipes here. the apples (technically it's a pumpkin cookie cutter but did the elves have pumpkins?) are recipe 1 and the squares are recipe 2, and the apples rose like biscuits and unsurprisingly taste like... biscuits. the square ones taste kind of like scones, and they look like what i imagine you might get if merry and pippin went home to the shire and asked their significant others (or more likely their moms) to make them lembas bread without having any idea how. i had a VERY HARD TIME WITH THE DOUGH (it wouldn't come together - a stick of butter and some heavy cream is not nearly enough fat for two and a half cups of flour) which is why they look like... that. i got compliments on them, tho, which is all that matters. and not all my baked goods are attractive anyway.
we took a few breaks for food so it took about five hours to watch a three-hour movie. >.< but it was a lot of fun and i had a good time. and then i went back to my sister's to watch the two towers and eat more (i had to go to SIX grocery stores - SIX - to find pigs in a blanket which is five grocery stores too many), and we watched the ball drop over times square and for once did not hear people shooting off fireworks in the neighborhood. i slept on the couch because i wasn't going to drive home, and also part of the tradition is that we have to watch the return of the king new year's day morning. then we ran errands and called mom and made black-eyed peas and played trivial pursuit and eventually i came home.
and today i went to the grocery store and had family zoom and got chinese take-out for dinner. and tomorrow it's back to work, altho i'm working from home for all of january so it's back to work from the dining room. which is fine with me.
last tuesday when the plumbers came back to turn off the water again so they could fix the leak in the basement i went to see the matrix resurrections, which i really enjoyed. it's very aware of itself as a sequel and i thought it did a good job bringing in stuff from the previous movies. also, and i don't consider this a spoiler, it has a bunch of actors from sense8, which personally i found very exciting.
oh and also, someone came on thursday to re-sheetrock the back hall and close up the hole, and now you can't tell anyone ever cut a hole in my wall to get at the pipes. very exciting. and the bathroom sink has much better water pressure than before, probably as a result of the leak being fixed.
taxi flats! by which i mean, yellow flats that look like taxicabs.
they also come in glitter.
