happy day after inauguration day, my fellow americans! i didn't watch any of it altho today i found a video of the youth poet laureate, amanda gorman. she was great. i'm excited for the new administration, mostly because i'm excited and relieved to have an adult in charge again.
officially signed up for
spn-j2-bigbang, should probably get with the drafting. >.< a couple of lovely people volunteered to throw plot ideas at me until something stuck, so i need to get my shit together and get in touch. i had an idea and then
dear-tiger had an idea on top of my idea and i want to share them and get other opinions. why yes, you're now going to have to suffer sporadic bang thoughts until may. :D
dear-tiger also recommended search party, which i have now watched all the way through 4x03, which i think is the last new episode. they're short episodes so i've been averaging, uh, a season per night. it's a lot. i want to smack everyone almost all the time and the story is kind of going off the rails but i can't stop watching. it's weirdly compelling for being a tv show about people who aren't actually all that likable and who do some really dumb shit.
i also started watching doom patrol but i'm not sure how i feel about it. i've only seen the first two episodes, and i'm amused as hell that matt bomer the beautiful plays the guy whose face is always wrapped in bandages. also the new walker, texas ranger premieres tonight, but i have writing group so someone will have to tell me if it's worth checking out. jared looks DEEPLY WEIRD with such short hair.
my sister and i are THISCLOSE to finishing the crown. i actually like philip now! he grew up and accepted his place in the world! this means i want to smack charles a lot instead. i feel bad for him but at the same time i want to shake him and tell him to act like an adult and actually talk to his wife.
i've really been enjoying
snowflake_challenge and i just hope everyone else has too. :D at least i hope you don't mind all the fandom-related posts.
and now... i have links! posting seems to have taken a back seat to snowflake, and when that happens the links back up.
james doohan's ashes were smuggled onto the international space station, at his family's request. this tickles me pink.
this is just a nice article about mothers and daughters and cooking.
in the sixteenth century plague came to a city in sardinia, and in response a local doctor wrote a manual
recommending such familiar things as social distancing and lockdowns to try and prevent everyone from dying.
artist starts little free art gallery, having been inspired by the little free libraries. take a tiny artwork, leave a tiny artwork. she even made a little bench and installed some tiny figurines as gallery visitors.
you know the sea shanty that's been going around the internets? (and do you know how to prevent the inevitable earworm?)
this is excellent mashup. it includes some info about the sea shanty in question, which i appreciate because what the hell is a wellerman, anyway?
the blackest pigment in the world is called vantablack and is a. super expensive to apply, b. super volatile to apply, and c. the sole property of the artist anish kapoor. (who is apparently a dick.) so what do you do if you want to spraypaint a car the blackest black?
you turn to an actually available black, which is called musou black and absorbs light in a
frankly terrifying kind of way. and then you spray it with glitter so it looks like the night sky.
love stories in the time of pandemic - when your adventures in quarantine involve falling in love, or sometimes just being in love with the person you're quarantined (or not) with.
and for a more sciency take,
here's an article about katalin karikó, the woman whose work on mrna eventually led to the pfizer-biontech vaccine.
four unrelated guys all named paul o'sullivan form a band remotely. it's called... the paul o'sullivan band, natch.
