yesterday i accidentally sloshed some tea on my laptop, dried it off as fast as i could, and then half the keys stopped working and it started scrolling weirdly. so i mentally smacked myself for being careless, shut it down, and let it dry out more thoroughly. and half the keys still don't work and it still scrolls weirdly. >.< so i think i'm going to have to replace it and let me just say, this is not how i wanted to spend my money. on the other hand, it IS eight years old, which i think is old for a laptop. does anyone have tips for buying a refurbished macbook?
fortunately i was writing fate's plaything (that's the agoraphobe and the lighthouse keeper) on googledocs, so i didn't lose my nearly 7200 words. i did however lose a whole bunch of tumblr tabs. found them again, tho. aaaaand a whole bunch more. i can't help it. it's like eating potato chips. i can't reblog just one thing. (i'm on my work laptop now. i hope work doesn't mind....)
ugh, now i want taco chips. >.<
the weather was so nice over the weekend, by which i mean yesterday and today it was in the 70s and not brutally hot. and the bookstore near me is open for browsers! so i went in yesterday! and bought books! in person! omg! it was almost like the before times except they were limiting the number of people in the store (not a problem, i mean i think there were five other people there besides me, and that includes the two employees) and you had to hand sanitize before going in, and they had plexiglas in front of the register and the cashier was wearing a mask. it had cats on it. it was very cute. but it felt so... normal. and now i have more reading material. :D including bring up the bodies, the sequel to wolf hall - which i still haven't finished - because apparently i want to know what happens next. hopefully it won't take as long to read as wolf hall.
today i took a walk after work - since it wasn't FUCKING HOT - and saw tiny hobbit holes! and the purple house i love with a love that borders on the unseemly! and tomatoes! and two - count 'em - bunnies! and it was just so nice to get out of the house.
you can rent a friend in tokyo. which sounds weird - i think it is weird - but it clearly fills a niche, and i guess if you just want someone to chat and hang out with in a companionable and non-creepy way, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to.
ugly public transit seat covers - just what it says on the tin. :D they're not all horrifying, altho there's a judgmental link to the seat covers on some of the boston t trains. which, to be fair, are kind of dated and not the most attractive.
the history of steam heat and pandemics. the short version: fresh air was considered super healthy, so people were encouraged to keep their windows open even in the dead of winter, so you needed powerful heating in your house. if you live in a part of the us where the housing stock tends to have ancient steam radiators (like greater boston :D ), you may be alternately cursing and blessing the folks who installed the damn things.
