(lake placid was on before. it's a dumb movie but it has bill pullman and brendan gleeson and bridget fonda and oliver platt and betty white, and some of the dialogue is fun. now i'm watching spider-man: homecoming because i need background noise and if i watch more babylon berlin i have to pay attention to the subtitles. i keep yelling at tony stark, tho. >.< )

registration is now open for confabcon, which is online this year (shocker) so i can actually go. :D i haven't been to a con since the last wincon in 2015 [1] and i kinda miss it. an all-zoom, all-discord con isn't the same thing, but also it's free so if i change my mind, no harm, no foul. buuuut i've also been thinking about panels, so. it's not until november (nano month!), which gives me time to change my mind and you time to decide whether or not you want to go too. :D

i swear there was something else but i don't remember what it was. a thing that occurred to me about the old guard, i guess. immortals can't tell when one of them becomes mortal again - they know when a new immortal manifests (booker even says he felt nile die), but not when one of them reverts to mortality. it's a reasonable assumption that way back when booker was a baby immortal and the rest of them were explaining things, when he said he was dreaming about a woman drowning over and over at the bottom of the ocean, someone would've said oh, that's quynh, this is her story. but he's not going to bring her up again, especially once he knows how much pain and guilt it would bring andy. fast forward two hundred years and nile, the new baby immortal, has a nightmare about a madwoman drowning over and over at the bottom of the ocean, and joe and nicky tell her oh, that's quynh, this is her story.

the way joe says she's been there for five hundred years implies they've always assumed she was still alive, but they're all well aware they could lose their immortality at any time, and there's no way for him or nicky or andy to know for sure. and i don't think booker's talking. but now andy knows. quynh's still alive at the bottom of the ocean, and she's gone insane, and she's pissed. and as far as andy's concerned, she's the reason quynh's still down there.

i realllly want a sequel. i'm there for joe&nicky flashbacks, because who isn't, but man, i really want the quynh and andy reunion.

[1] i guess i should count wizardworld philly? that was 2016. but while i by and large had a good time, it was very much a professional con and not a fan-run one, and there was much less opportunity to have the most random of conversations with people whose names are familiar but who i don't think i know. which is one of the most fun things about cons. that and getting to play cards against humanity with my fellow fen. :D why am i sticky?

confabcon, movies, wizardworld philly, the old guard
