i just want you all to know that it's snowing and has been for slightly longer than i was expecting. this is very exciting. i went grocery shopping and did my laundry and made chili in the crockpot and unearthed my snow boots so i am PREPARED. yay. :D
so it's been a while. >.< my parents came up for thanksgiving and also my birthday. we had the november birthday potluck at work and i made my mom's flourless passover bundt cake and stuffed my face with pecan pie bites (SO GOOD OMG). one of the librarians brought her puppy to work, but since puppy couldn't come inside the building they had to hang out in one of the campus green spaces and let people come to them. puppy's name is leaf and she's a nine/ten week (month? i don't remember) old labradoodle. i think adult labradoodles are funny-looking bordering on ugly, but puppy labradoodles are weaponized cute. she was also SUPER FRIENDLY. and kind of bitey. >.< i mean, she's a puppy, sometimes her tiny puppy teeth get in the way.
my parents took me out for dinner for my birthday - cuban food, which was DELISH - we has tres leches cake for dessert and
it was so pretty:
and on saturday i had the family party (by which i mean, mostly cousins) and we went BOWLING -
candlepinning, because new england - and had pizza because i'm really twelve. :D fun was had, cake was et. cake was tall and dense and half of it ended up in my freezer. >.<
and one of my cousins got me a llama balloon.
i spent half of sunday with the parental unit and my sister, and my sister made us dinner. last wednesday i left work earlyish, finished my nanonovel, yay, and went back to my sister's for chinese food with the fam, as is the tradition of our people. :D we ended up watching the first harry potter because my mom never saw it. we went out for thanksgiving, to a very olde new englandy place (it opened in 1716 as a "house of entertainment" which probably wasn't as salacious as it sounds), and it was very traditional and yummy. we saw my aunt's new place (she moved earlier this year) and saw it's a beautiful day in the neighborhood which isn't quite as much about mr rogers as i was expecting, and only made me tear up once, and which i enjoyed even tho it was kind of slow. of all the previews we saw, only one was for a movie i was even slightly interested in. and then we went to my cousin's for dessert. it was a very long day and full of food. and i got leftovers. :D which i had for dinner tonight.
my mom and sister did black friday after which i came over for a late breakfast, then the parental unit went home and i spent the rest of the day with the sister unit. we watched won't you be my neighbor, the mr rogers documentary, and hail, caesar which was a little bugnuts in places but fun. i liked it. and yesterday i slept late! because i could! and my sister and i saw our cousin-adjacent's two younger kids in their high school fall musical. the theater kids at that school are a pretty talented bunch, but the mics kept going out which was distracting as hell, and i don't know if i liked the play for itself. i liked the music, but we've seen better productions. and you know what i did today. (watched the snow. :D ) we didn't have curling last weekend because the other team had to forfeit, and we had a bye tonight so i feel like it's been FOREVER since i was on the ice. oh well. it means i got everything done today.
so yes, i finished nano. i validated at 50,875 and kind of forced an ending, as per usual, but hey, i finished, and i enjoyed doing it, and i learned a couple things.
there's also workstuff but this is long enough, so... later.
speaking of mr rogers,
this is a lovely article about his wife joanne.
have you seen the boston dynamics
robot dogs? i think they're creepy as hell.
but they're kinda cute when they dance.
japanese priests hold funerals for sony aibo robo-dogs, because apparently even robo-dogs have souls.
a bolivian monastery adopted a dog and named him... friar mustache. he has his own robe and everything.
and in final happy thanksgiving news, a few years ago a woman in arizona texted the wrong kid, thinking he was her grandson (he wasn't). she invited him over for thanksgiving anyway.
they're still celebrating thanksgiving together.
