happy mother's day to the mothers on the flist! you're a pretty fabulous bunch of people and i hope your kids know it.
also happy birthday
donutsweeper! i hope it was a good one, possibly with... doughnuts. :D
has anyone gotten a farm share? how was it? i'm contemplating one but it's really hard to find a share for one person.
so the met gala has come and gone (i know this is old news) and liza koshy (who i guess is with vogue?)
narrating lady gaga's appearance is kinda nuts but really fun.
the theme this year was camp. ezra miller was kind of terrifying, dua lipa and lily collins rocked the bouffant, ruth negga was adorable, tracee ellis ross' outfit perfectly framed her face, benedict cucumberpatch cumberbatch channeled his inner plantation owner, diane von furstenberg wore herself, katy perry came as a chandelier, natasha lyonne could've taken someone's eyes out with her shoulders, ryan murphy wore a cape, and billy porter totally stole the show. yes, even from lady gaga. he was very impressive.
last weekend my sister and i went outlet-mall shopping and i got stuff i needed and was looking for, stuff i needed and wasn't looking for, and stuff i didn't need (cactus earrings) (so cute and so unnecessary). it was also somerville open studios but i only had time on sunday and only for a couple of studios -
@farwing's and the
museum of modern renaissance - but i apparently had time to hang around the comic shop and chat with one of the women who works there and a random customer. we talked about copyright law, open source, various weights of paper (24lb vs 70gsm, that kind of thing), and why you should always be nice to the admins. and this weekend i got a pedicure in advance of sandal season (by which i mean hawaii) and tried and failed to find a good backpack for my trip.
on monday at work we had a cinco de mayo party, at which i ate an inadvisable number of taco chips and a cupcake with a tall frosting cactus and candy confetti inside. the rest of the week was pretty chill and kind of boring except for the requisite "i've done something wrong" occasions and way more mental energy than necessary spent on the very special partner's expenses. >.< and not even because she was being high-maintenance! this actually was partly my fault - i misunderstood some of the expenses policy and told her the wrong limit for partner meals. and the expenses team kept kicking back one of the expense reports with "so... this is a lot of money for dinner", because she routinely spends $100 on dinner for herself. this is because a. new york city, and b. she'll order a bottle of wine. (this is what you learn when you do expense reports - what exactly people order. also how much they tip. sometimes i judge.) and that's a bit too much. i straightened it out, eventually. but how do you respond to "this is a lot of money for one person for dinner"? i mean, yes, it is, but what can i do about it now? what do you need from me, aside from an explanation?
honestly, the biggest reason why i want someone else to do her expenses and travel is because i spend a lot of mental energy on them that i could be spending on something else. like, any one of a number of things i seem to be doing wrong.
i meant to share this on the fourth and totally flaked.
question about the 100: is murphy dead?? also of course the last episode started with violence which is totally on-brand and you have to admire the consistency. but murphy!
is anyone else watching what we do in the shadows?
can i squee? i'm going to squee. i mean, TILDA SWINTON, OMG. DANNY TREJO. PAUL RUBENS. TAIKA WAITITI AND JEMAINE CLEMENT. DAVE BAUTISTA. KIEFER AND TOM AND BRAD COULDN'T BE THERE. KRISTEN "LOUISE BELCHER" SCHAAL! (her voice was familiar.) how ridiculous is this show? SO ridiculous!
and to end on a really sweet note, this little old lady has been waving to kids on their way to school for twelve years, and when she moved to an assisted living home,
hundreds of students turned up to say goodbye. aww.
