unbow your head, sister

on friday night the city of somerville in its infinite wisdom declared a snow emergency, even tho that morning the weather channel predicted three inches at the most, and in the afternoon new england cable news predicted three inches at the most. but hey, city calls a snow emergency, you drop off your rent and move your car. then saturday morning, with maybe an inch of snow on the ground, they send out a robocall saying basically "we thought we were getting a storm but no one bothered to tell mother nature, and oh by the way we'll forgive any tickets you got for not moving your car". ok, but come on, somerville, watch the weather channel like everyone else.

yesterday they declared another snow emergency, but this time we actually got enough snow to deserve it. my bus didn't come (well, it did, but it was out of service because of course it was), so when i saw a bus coming the other direction i ran across the street to catch it. the bus stop hadn't been shoveled out (it was still snowing) but i had to get out of the road, so i stepped into what turned out to be a much deeper, much softer snowbank than i was expecting, and... got stuck. >.< the bus very slowly, very carefully pulled up, i managed to pry my feet out of the snow, turn around, and get on. the bus driver commented that it looked like i was stuck in quicksand. >.< most of tax came in, because there's always someone in tax, but there weren't a lot of other people so the office ordered in lunch for everyone who was there. and i was busy! last tuesday i talked to my grandboss (i guess that's what she is - she's the regional head of my service line) and she told me people complained about me! namely my inability to get stuff done on time and the necessity of following up to make sure i've done it. >.< some of the complaints are legitimate but i want to know who complained, and what specifically they had an issue with.

i mean, i probably don't, but who bitched?? nrgh. i panicked on wednesday and adjusted my attitude on thursday and spent the whole week tracking how much time i spent on what, because my supervisor asked me to. (and then i learned why!) today i made a note of absolutely everything i did, including pee breaks, tea breaks, and stuff like "read email" and "added lauren to the security list" and "booked a conference room" - stuff that takes a minute, if that - so i know exactly what i do all day. it's actually a useful exercise and i'm going to do it all week, just for myself. altho for some reason my supervisor thinks booking travel is a new thing for me, and... it isn't.

anyway. we got snow and it was fabulous. :D it didn't take as long as i expected to dig out my car, because i could just pull forward into the space vacated by the car that parked in front of me, and then follow that car's tracks away from the sidewalk. i almost drove off without my shovel, tho. >.< and it's a good shovel.

yesterday i met my sister for brunch and if beale street could talk, which is both adorable and depressing. half of it is the love story of a young couple - she's nineteen, he's twenty-two - it's very sweet - and the other half is about being black in america in the late 60s? early 70s? so it's depressing. but the two leads have really nice chemistry and it looks and feels appropriately vintage, and i liked it. even tho it's kind of depressing.

saturday i bought clothes (work pants! a nice blue shirt i can't wear yet because it's still cold!), got my comics, chatted with the guy at the comic shop, and added a bunch of words to my bang. i wrote a scene, took it out, and now think i should put it back in. i'm having the most trouble with this fic. i need to know how it ends so i know where it's going. ugh, why is this hard?

finally, i made honey harissa chicken with chickpeas for dinner, and it was yummy. kind of tomato-y, kind of sweet, kind of spicy-hot. good and good for you!
